He intended to kill me.

I couldn't believe what I heard over the phone. The call came from one of the men who had visited the bakery an hour before. "Who was that?" My boss inquired, his brows arched slightly. I exhale. "It came from one of those men who ordered the pie." I declare. My boss observe my expression. "So, why is your face like that, and what did he say, don't they want the pie anymore, do they want a r****d, do they...?" I absurdly interrupted my boss's statement. "They don't want any of that." I mumble. I can see my boss swallowing hard. "Then what on earth does he want?" He inquired, and he was impatient for me to tell him what the caller had just said. "The caller said that they need to taste the pie, and they need to taste it for free." I declare. My boss rushed over to my side and lightly hit my shoulder. "You actually made me freak out." My boss mumbles while laughing. "I'm serious boss. He claims he needs a sample of the pie and that he needs it for free." I said this because I have a feeling my boss didn't hear my previous statement a while ago. "Why are you acting as if it's a big deal? It's just one free pie, so I think we'll be fine." Mr. Mathew stated. He's currently behaving strangely. Having a customer request something like that, especially when the item is known to be free... Most of the time, this means that they will file a complaint after receiving the free pie and will request a r****d. "I'm concerned about the bakery shop Boss. The tone and manner of that man's voice say otherwise." I said. My boss scuffed. "I thought you wanted to be a priest?" He asks, and I promptly nod, despite the fact that I have no idea why he has asked such a question out of the blue. "Why are you suddenly inquiring about that boss?" I question. "Isn't that obvious? I'd like you to pray for this bakery so that everything goes smoothly." He stated confidently. I had been wondering for a while if this person was my boss. "But..." My voice trailed off as I became tongue-tied. I'm at loss for words. "Dad. I believe we should proceed cautiously because Emery isn't having a good feeling about this." Christina declares as she attempts to reason with her father. "That's why I said we should pray," he says. "All right, let's get back to work." He added. I swallowed hard, but decided to keep quiet. Beside, I'm just a worker here, so I don't have to forget my place. "I'm sorry about my father." Christina said, and her voice jolted me back to reality. Before smiling, I fluster my eyelashes a few times. "You don't have to feel bad about him. In addition, he has faith that everything will go well, so I hope his faith speaks for him." I said to Christina. Christina is already drooling on herself and staring at me with admiration, so I decided to observe her expression. "Hey!" I called out to her while snapping my fingers in front of her. "Ohh." She mumbles quickly as she wipes the spit from her mouth with the back of her hand. "That's weird." I mumble something before excused myself and went to get some more delivery. I loaded the delivery onto my bike carrier and was also given an extra pie to deliver to the guy who had requested that we give him a free sample of Lemon Meringue Pie. I delivered as usual, and the final delivery was to that mysterious individual who had requested a free pie. I follow the instructions on the piece of paper and arrive at the address in no time. It was a small company, and I was expecting a big one, but it wasn't. I took out my phone and was about to call the number on the paper when it rang. When I answered the phone, it was the man who had called a while ago. "I'm already at the address you gave me." I said. He had given me an address at the time he had called me. On a scrap of paper, I scribbled the address. The address on the card they gave to my boss is where we will deliver tomorrow's pie, and it is completely different from the address I received. "Open the pie box and leave the pie on the floor." The voice on the other end of the phone declares. I have yet to enter the small company, so I am currently outside. "Sir, I'm standing outside the company building. Should I go inside the building and hand it over to whoever is standing in the middle of the alley?" I inquire because I need to clarify my order. "You're already standing outside the company, so drop the pie at the front door." He stated. "Do not go inside the company building." He continued, and his last statement was a bit authoritative, sending shivers down my spine, and I couldn't help but bite my lower lips. "Are you saying I should put the Lemon Meringue Pie in front of..." "I believe you aren't deaf, Emery, so do as you are told." He said it in a cold tone that made my stomach sick. I wanted to ask him more questions because I don't quite understand him, but he hung up the phone. I stand outside the company building, still wondering if what I just heard is true. I'm not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me. I tried calling his phone number and the number that had called me, but they said the number does not exit. My eyes widened in surprise because I couldn't believe the number that had just called me didn't exit. That's the same phone number that called me asking for a free pie. I swallowed my saliva hard and decided to do as I was told. I placed the box of pie on the ground, then climbed my bike and was attempting to reverse when a car unexpectedly rode past the pie. The person currently inside the car is wearing a black mask, with only his eyes visible. His eyes were lethal, almost as if he intended to kill me. My stomach clenched. Lord! What have I gotten myself into?
