When they pulled out the driveway, the tension hung thick. Neither spoke until Joe sneezed. “Gesundheit,” Kris said. “Thanks,” Joe said, glancing at him. “Mind if I turn on the radio?” “Sure. There’s a station in Kansas City that plays only Christmas music between Thanksgiving and Christmas, if you want to get in the holiday mood.” “Nah.” He flipped on the radio and a song by Bruno Mars filled the air. He sat back and stared out the window. “You okay?” Joe turned to look at him as he pulled to a stop sign. “Kris?” Kris sighed. “Can we just start over?” Joe smiled. “I’d like that.” “I’m just going to lay this all out on the table, okay?” Joe nodded.
