Chapter sevenTina woke next morning with a sense of foreboding, as if a heavy cloud lay over her. It was belied by the brilliant sunshine streaming in through the window. She arose and looked out over the Park with the chestnut trees with their pink and white blossoms like candles pointing towards the blue sky, the bushes heavy with blossom and the rhododendrons reflected in the lake. ‘Why,’ she wondered, ‘must everything that is lovely and made for happiness be overshadowed?’ It seemed to her as though Sir Marcus stood behind her with that confident expression on his face that she could not seem to forget.
