Chapter 1 The Gray Brothers Maggie “Nolan! Give me back my bra, you little brat!” I chased Nolan. He ran, waving my bra in the air. You’re wondering what I’m doing? I’m chasing Nolan Gray, the youngest of the Gray Brothers. He wasn’t little since he’s five inches taller than me, but he’s still a pest. Okay, you’re confused about why I’m chasing him when I’m not even related to him. Why don’t we backtrack? Brian and Tricia Holloway, AKA, my birth parents, left a few weeks ago. They took a sabbatical for a whole stupid year without me, their loving daughter, and dumped me on our neighbors, the Grays. You’re wondering why they didn’t let me stay home. It’s simple. They rented out our house. I swear. Sometimes, my parents think of themselves. Now, I have known the Grays my entire life since we’re neighbors. Pat and Nate are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. Can they adopt me? They’re sweet. Nate and Pat’s sons aren’t. They are the biggest troublemakers on the block and are always causing problems. The biggest problem is that they’re freaking hot. Even Nolan is cute. It’s the one thing they have going for them. How do they have the parents they have? It’s beyond me. Nate and Pat exude kindness. And the Gray Brothers are the demon spawns raised from hell’s depths. In case you’re wondering, no, we don’t get along. The hatred between us is mutual. It’s been that way the entire time I have known them. The brothers hate me; I hate them; We hate each other. The worst part was that I went to school with each of them. I experienced my gawky teenage years, only for the Gray brothers to pick on me. Hey, they weren’t always hot. They had their moments. Nash Gray was the oldest. Next was Nixon. Then the demon twins, Nathan and Noah. Never confuse the demon twins. I did once, and they never let me forget it. I do it on purpose to spite them—finally, their baby brother, Nolan, who’s the devil incarnate. For the past two weeks, I endured living in their house since my loving parents dumped me on them. It’s been a change. “Stop taking Maggie’s underwear, Nolan.” Pat snatched my bra from him and tossed it to me while passing him in the hallway. “Aw, Ma. You’re no fun.” “When you have kids, then you can be no fun.” She shrugged as she walked away and winked at me. I couldn’t help but giggle. I love Pat. I walked into my bedroom. “Dear diary. I saw Bryson today, and he’s so dreamy, as always. Oh, did I tell you? I’m the most boring person on the face of the earth?” Nathan asked, peeking up from my journal. “Give me that,” I said, reaching for my journal. Nathan yanked it away. “No offense, but I got bored after five minutes of reading this crap.” He tossed the book aside. “Oh, let’s leave boring Betty alone, Nathan. She enjoys being boring.” Noah flipped through a magazine. “Get out!” I pointed at the doorway. “Gladly,” Nathan said, getting off the bed. They left the room. The twins are hell’s demon spawn and as bad as Nolan. A door slammed with heavy footsteps thumping up the stairs. I peeked out of the doorway and got met with, “What?” “Nothing.” “Do you need to stare at people?” “Who pissed in your Cheerios?” “Forget it. Stop staring. It’s creepy.” I shot Nixon a glare, and he gave one back. Great, Nixon was home. Let the fun begin. Yeah, senior year will be an exciting year. It's the story about how the Gray brothers changed my life while I changed theirs.
