CHAPTER 5 AURORA“Why is your scar glowing?” I whispered to Ares. His skin shimmered red underneath my fingers, the color almost swimming inside of him like a pool of sanguine and scarlet. But this was impossible. How could this be? Had this happened before, and I just hadn’t noticed it? Ares glanced down at his chest and tensed, pecs flexing. “I told you, Mars is gone.” “Why is it red?” I repeated. He paused for a moment. “I don’t know.” “None of this makes sense. This should’ve killed you,” I whispered. A scar that deep—especially one that hadn’t healed fully, even with his werewolf regenerative properties—meant that it was close to a fatal wound. And if Fenris had really slashed his claws right through Mars’s rib cage and into his heart, Ares should’ve been dead too. Wind blew ou
