HEARTBROKEN
Heartbreak.
That was the painful feeling in Lacy’s chest.
It was a new feeling, one that she had never experienced before— one that she had never ever thought she would experience, because up until now, her marriage to the Alpha had been nothing but bliss.
A perfect life that had started by accident and then morphed into something more.
Lucius Smith.
Her husband, her mate. He had saved her from being mauled by one of his wolves when she had accidentally stumbled into their territory after having been lost in the woods for days almost five years ago.
Oh, how fast time flew.
Theirs hadn’t been a fated match, but the Alpha had been so smitten when he found her that no one in the pack could tell the difference, and the feeling had been the same for her, even though she had been absolutely terrified to death when she had found out what he truly was.
A werewolf.
Until she came to the Blue Valley pack, Lacy had always thought wolves to be a figment of some twisted story teller’s imagination.
Unreal.
She remembered how she had passed out when she discovered the hard truth… when the wolves that had been chasing her then shifted into human forms, their naked bodies and their limp c***s on display as they asked her who she was and why she was on their territory.
Oh, how quickly she had become their Luna.
But that was not what was on Lacy’s mind?
Not her past?
No.
The rumors hovering in the air about her chosen mate’s infidelity was all that was on her mind today. So great were the rumors that even her best friend, Anita, who prior to everything had been unflinchingly on the Alpha’s side had told her in not so many words to start psyching herself for the worst, so that way, she could better protect her heart if the rumors did turn out to be true after all.
There was only one question though,
How did one protect one’s heart when it was already bleeding with pain?
Hope!
That was it.
She had to hope that their love was strong enough to get past this. That Lucius would not and would never be unfaithful to her. As a matter of fact, now that she thought about it, it didn’t make sense that her husband would cheat. They were very happy, though not having as much s*x as they used to… but happy nonetheless. Why would he go and cheat then if everything was perfect?
The series of questions seemed to work, for Lacy suddenly felt lighter, her heart warm again as she made her way over to the pack house.
The entire house was dark and quiet when she got there, as it usually was this time of day, with everyone over at the training grounds or the common lounge. Even she should have been there at either of those places, as they all usually left the Alpha to take some very well deserved rest in these hours. But she needed some loving from her husband… one that she was sure could assuage all her fears and put all her doubts to rest.
She was sure even Lucius would understand.
The Luna stopped at the small indoor garden to check on her petunias… her pride of the season, a smile on her face as she inhaled their enthralling scent, her earlier task of finding her husband momentarily forgotten as she inspected her garden patch. Sunlight shone generously and beautifully on the purple and white blooms, kissing it with its rays… the secret as to why they were doing so well despite being indoors. Lacy trimmed a few bad ones here and there, humming Celine Dion’s ‘have you ever been in love’ under her breath.
But a voice quickly brought her back on track.
A woman’s voice. Laughing and giggling. That voice was in no way her husband Lucius’s voice. It was too light and sing-songy to be his voice, or any male wolf’s voice for that matter.
There was a woman in the house.
All alone with her husband.
That revelation was enough to bring her worries back with a vengeance, that feeling of heartbreak even stronger than it was before. Truly, it was as though the organ had already made terms with what she was finding so hard to come to terms with, already steeling her for what was to come.
Lacy made her way upstairs, her feet heavy with each giggle she heard. To be honest, she had hoped that her husband wasn’t in there, but she heard his laughter loud and clear, right along with whoever was in there with him, and still her brain refuted all the signs.
Maybe it was a business meeting.
She tried to reason, but her feet wouldn’t take her to the conference room upstairs… it took her towards their room instead.
“You’re such a naughty boy, Lucius…” There was that giggle again.
You know, that should have been enough for Lacy, the words, the sounds, the chuckle— everything that was indicating that her husband, was cheating on her… but it was as though she wanted to punish herself some more. She wanted to see with her own eyes, because even then, a part of her still refused to believe what her ears were hearing.
“Only for you.”
“Come on, Luc… just leave your wife, so I can become your mate… I want to be your mate.”
“Give me time, Alexia… I want to ease her into it gently, you know just how much she loves me,”
It was Lucius’s voice alright, but it sounded so different, sounded so hollow and malicious. It must have been because they knew they were totally alone, but they were really making so much noise with their conversation and their lovemaking.
“Now shut up and take this c**k in your mouth.”
“Mm. Yes!”
“Deeper, take me deeper,”
They hadn’t even heard the door open, too engrossed in their lovemaking to see or hear her step in. Lacy took in the woman on her knees, pleasuring her husband senseless, a tear slipping down her face. So this was why he hadn’t touched her in almost three years, always coming up with some flimsy excuse. She knew the woman, a reddish blonde haired she-wolf who had always been a little condescending when talking to her, but not so much that it was blatant.
So this was why.
“L—Lucius,” She hated how her voice broke even as the sob escaped her throat, hated the amused smirk on the slut’s face even as she continued to suck her husband in her presence, hated the look of horror that quickly shifted into regret, and then relief on her husband’s. “Lacy,”
“Don’t,” She begged, too broken to be brave in the face of this betrayal, “Don’t mention my name,” She whispered.
Lucius tore his c**k away from Alexia’s lips, taking a step towards her, Lacy took one back, “Stay away from me,”
But the Alpha continued undeterred, “I—I said stay away from me,” with each word that escaped her mouth, Lacy felt strength seep into her bones, she felt anger rapidly replace the pain even as she continued to step back and out of her chosen mate’s grasps. “I hate you… I hate how you have desecrated the institution of our marriage by tainting it w—with this—this woman! H-how long has this been going on?”
“Does it really matter, Lacy?” The Alpha’s voice was full of exhaustion, as though her question bored him to no end. To be honest, it didn’t matter, but Lacy wanted to hear the truth nonetheless.
“How long has this been going on?!”
“Four years,” Alexia answered for him, when she saw that the Alpha wasn’t going to be doing that anytime soon. Lucius had the decency to hang his head in shame at the confession, but that was not what Lacy’s focus was on.
Four years.
Four years.
Four years!
FOUR YEARS!
Her entire marriage had been a lie, only one year truly perfect. Hell, in that moment, even that one year was questionable… because who knew what thoughts he had been harboring? Who knew what schemes had been going on through his mind?
It hurt. It f*****g hurt so much.
It was all too much for Lacy to bear, her heart feeling like molten silver in her chest. To think that she was still human.
“Just do it now, Luc… reject her so we can finally be together, I mean she finally knows, and she’s still standing, clearly, she’s stronger than you give her credit for,” Alexia said, her voice sultry, her hands all over the Alpha’s still naked body, teasing, coaxing him to do her bidding.
“I—is she your fated mate?” Fear pooled in Lacy’s stomach as she asked this question, her heart already fearing the worst. It was an insult to her honor and her dignity to be still standing in front of the two wolves who clearly had no respect for her, and yet Lacy couldn’t bring herself to leave. Her feet were like molten lead, permanently soldered to the ground. She was weak, a spineless Luna who was a fool for love. To think that she had abandoned her human family all these years for this sham of a marriage!
“She isn’t,” Came the Alpha’s reply, “But he loves me nonetheless, and certainly more than he does you.” Alexia was quick to point out.
This time, when the tears came again, it was ugly to look at. Lacy hated herself for being so broken, and hated her chosen mate even more for putting her through all this.
“Lace, we can work this out,” She heard him loud and clear, but she ignored him, her brain going a mile a second.
There was nothing else to live for?
Lacy knew how this was all going to go down.
She had heard stories from other packs to know that her fate was already sealed,
That she was going to die.
First, she could not leave the pack, or go back to her human family even. Lucius would try to be civil to her, promising her an amicable settlement… but then she was going to garner so much support that his position as Alpha would be threatened, his new, chosen mate hated. All the love he might have felt for her would suddenly vanish and he would begin to scorn her. She would be framed and then thrown into the dungeons, tortured for days, and then finally, she would be tried by a biased court, and then she’d die a miserable death after their judgement.
She couldn’t have that.
Go.
Do as I tell you.
Jump.
Lacy felt the odd voice in her head suddenly, it invaded her thoughts, its celestial lull flooding her senses, taking control over her body.
She knew instantly... instinctively, that it was the Moon Goddess.
It was as though she was possessed, and the moment seemed beautiful and yet sickening… for she began her bridal march, the very one she had done five years ago with so much love… only that this time, she didn’t move towards her mate, but away from him, this time instead of love, there was hate… there was pain. It was poetically striking, because even as the tears flowed down her lovely face, she was struck by this peaceful calm knowing that she was getting the final say,
“Lacy no!”
But she ignored him, standing right at the precipice, already too far gone to hear him, or see that Alexia was holding him back. A tearful smile broke out on her face as she climbed the huge balcony railing, her arms stretched out wide as though she were about to dive into a new beginning… and perhaps, she was.
Her white dress blew about her as she stood there, her raven curls flying so beautifully behind her, painting the picture of an angel about to go back into the celestial kingdom,
And then she jumped.
To her death.
Let them enjoy the chaos that was going to ensue when she was gone. She had had the final say after all.
