Forty(Aurora)

1070 Words

For the next few days, there was no word from Healer Hayes or Lux. It seemed that life had gone back to normal and, like what happened with the fake Mariah after the ball had never happened. Despite his niece being missing, Desmond still attended all new recruit training, and he seemed to be in high spirits. I wasn’t sure if he was doing it to hide his sadness over Mariah, or if he didn’t care. However, it was only when he thought that no one was watching because they were too busy with drills that he let his fake smile falter and the tiredness show. It was only on the third day when he finally seemed to falter and called in Rosalie, a well-oiled killing machine, to cover the rest of our practice. As I watched him slowly leave, I could see the weight of the world bearing down on him.
