Chapter Two

1809 Words
Katherine's POV ~~~~~         The day went off mostly without any problems, just two boys that came in at the same time and bumped into each other and then went about to see who the strongest one was. Grandma Rodger gave me an air horn for whenever trouble was caused so I used it, without mercy. After about ten seconds of the pair holding their ears from the screeching pain of the horn, I raised an eyebrow at them. One of them tried to step my way with his voice raised only for me to mash the button one more time. They both let out a whimper and I gave them a crooked smile before asking what names they were checking under.         Once all the guests were signed in and all the rooms filled, I let out a sigh before going to the dining room to set up for the banquet they had that night. There were three sections all together with a small head table and two long rows of tables on either side of the dining hall. All the tables were draped with white table cloths with silver utensils and chargers, white plates with silver trim, and red napkins that offset the dark wood flooring of the dining hall. The walls are a cream color with silvery filigree designs on the wallpaper. The near floor to ceiling windows showing the garden outback is framed in the same dark wood. At the very center of the ceiling is a crystal chandelier were the lights cause diamond-shaped lights of all colors to dance on the walls and floor.         Like with the rooms, the females are to the left and the males are to the right. I could sense the tension in the air as I saw both sides sending all to knowing s****l glances at the other side of the room. The head table had all the older adults, I'm guessing the guardians, and they didn't seem to notice the tension at all. Small groups of twos or threes whispering to each other about one or more people on the other side of the room. My brother, father, and male servers hosted the guys as my mother, sister, grandmother, and myself served the ladies. There was steak, grilled chicken, green beans, collard greens, corn, potatoes, and rice. At one point one of the guests tried tripping me up on my left foot as I was carrying a tray of chicken for those looking for seconds. I barely managed to save all the chicken and myself from falling but I hurt my leg in the process. That old cut still stung like it happened yesterday if I was not careful with it. And this witch had to go and agitate it, causing me to cramp up. Thankfully, my mother was there to take the tray away from me before I hopped back to the kitchen to rub my calf down. I couldn't help with dessert, I was down for the count for the rest of the night.         The next day went by smoother as it seemed the one girl got a chewing out for her actions. It didn't bother me, I was over it once I saw that all the chickens stayed on the tray. Guess all those days of training counted towards something. The guests all seemed to stay in their rooms for the first day, save to come down for meals. That night, I decided to go out for a jog as I was all worked up after watching the first round of ice skating singles. Switzerland was our biggest rival this time around with Russia at a close second, and they were good. It made me wish that I could go out to the ice right then and there to do the performance that I worked so hard on that year. But thanks to my leg I couldn't do anything but simple circles around the rink.         I put on my black leggings, black tank top, and a pink, oversized sweater that hugged off my shoulders and only went down to my mid-drift. After I took my light brown and wavy hair and tied it back into a loose ponytail, I took a look at myself in the mirror. I was once very slim with the typical figure skater's body. But due to the lack of hard training and a restricted diet, I had gotten some curves to me now. Thanks to my newfound ass I've had to go up a size or two in jeans and my bra size was now a C cup. My mother kept telling me that it was fine because I was still healthy, but I saw it as another reason why I'd never skate again. My balance would be thrown off with these curves. With a sigh, I head out to the garden and lightly jog to the woods. That's when all hell broke loose. ~~~~~ Randolph's POV ~~~~~         The night had come for the Full Moon Blessing ceremony and I found myself a little nervous once again. I sat in the living room area of my hotel room as I waited for the double knock followed by a triple knock on my door. The sign that I was to go out into the woods and change into my wolf form. I didn't eat much at dinner like some of the others due to my nerves. The way the ceremony worked was that the elders and betas that were there went to different rooms every five minutes and knocked before all of the young wolves were out in the woods searching. After transforming they'd give a howl and pray to the Moon Goddess that they would get a response.         My heart about jumped from my chest as I finally heard the knock on my door as my father's beta gave the signature raps. Getting up, I went out of the room and down the stairs before heading through the garden. I barely passed the first trees before I stripped off my gym shorts and t-shirt and let Fenrir out. Silvery white fur sprouted from my skin as I started to jog before going down on all fours. After nearly a decade of shifting the pain didn't bother me anymore as my bones and muscles creaked and warped into my wolf form. My golden eyes scanned the area and I caught glimpses of other wolves here and there, some already paired off. Fenrir found a quiet spot in the center of the woods and let out a howl. It was more like a cry for his mate, begging that she would show herself to him. That was when we heard a scream, a human scream from somewhere in the woods.         It was bad, if one of the staff members walked in on our ceremony it could spell trouble for our kind. Even in this day and age, there are still hunters looking to kill us just for sport. Or the simple fact that they hate our kind. He ran to the source of the scream, Fenrir then slid to a stop as he caught sight of the human. She was sitting on the ground at the edge of a clearing, holding one of her legs to her body as she looked around in panic. The light from the full moon was shining down on her golden, brown hair and her skin glistened with the sweat on her brow. Then her gorgeous blue eyes with a bit of grey around her pupils land on me and Fenrir can only say one word to me. "Mate."         I could hear her heart racing and smell the fear coming off of her in waves. And by the looks of her holding her leg, I could tell that she was hurt. Someone dared hurt my mate and I was going to make them pay. Fenrir walked up to her slowly and I saw her eyes got big and she gulped hard. Yeah, Fenrir was large even for an alpha. Think if she stood up her head would reach my chest in human form but be another foot above her in wolf form. Fenrir got down on his belly and slowly crawled towards her, showing that he wasn't a threat. This earned a chuckle from her and my heart melted at her smile that she tried to cover up with her hand. So my wolf rolled over and rubbed his back into the ground which got a real laugh out of her. God her laugh was infectious and beautiful. Rolling back over, we crept a little closer until Fenrir could put his head lightly on her lap.         Taking her right hand, she carefully and slowly placed it on our snout and brushed his fur gently. His tail wagged happily and she smiled once again, knowing that I wouldn't hurt her. Fenrir then lifted his head and licked at her cheek causing her to giggle once again.         "Goddess she is adorable," I said to Fenrir.         "She isn't a wolf though, she is a human."         "That doesn't matter, she is our mate right?"         "Yes, I can smell it on her. And she is becoming calmer in our presence."         "Then she is perfect as she is. We finally found her." Fenrir nuzzled into her and she held his head with both hands while nuzzling back. He then rubbed his nose against the leg she was holding and she carefully rolled up her legging. There I saw a nasty scar of a deep cut and stitches from not that long ago. Fenrir let out a whimper at the sight of it and she cooed to him softly.         "I'm okay, I just overdid it running from your friends," she spoke with those honey lips of hers. Her voice like an angel in my ears. "I was afraid one of you was going to eat me but I guess with you here I'm okay." Fenrir wagged his tail again which earned us another smile. Goddess, she was beautiful! I could just lay here all day staring at her smile. But I could see that she was still in pain as she tried to rub her calf. So I asked Fenrir to let me take back over and changed back to my human form. From there I carefully took her leg and started to massage it for her. I looked up I saw that her face was as red as one of the roses in the garden while she covered her eyes. "That isn't something you see every day. Where are your clothes?"         "In due time, love. First, why don't you tell me your name?"
