CHAPTER7

1665 Words
Tanvi's P.O.V    When I got back to my class, the teacher stepped out to go talk to Sister Daisy. All the students started chanting, calling me a thief. They harassed me and even said bad words about my parents. I can tolerate all the things they said about me, but I could not tolerate anything being said about my parents. Some students walked up to me and started clutching my hair. I could feel my anger bubbling up inside me, I couldn't take this anymore and I reached out, fiercely scratching at the faces of the ones who had my hair in their hands. This was the first time I had shown my anger in front of the whole class, even Ankita backed away, scared of me.   All this time, I had silently tolerated all the things that they had said and done to me, but when they dragged my parents into it, I couldn't tolerate that and I wouldn't tolerate it.    "STAY AWAY FROM ME!" I yelled at the other students, warning them not to come near me again. My eyes and face were red and full of anger. The teacher returned shortly after and each of my classmates ran to her, the teacher managed to calm them all down.   "What is going on here?" The teacher said, asking each of the students.   "Tanvi scratched our faces and yelled at us, when she got back to class." The other students said in unison. I couldn't take anymore of their lies, they are only telling her what I did wrong and not what they have done wrong. They are putting all the blame onto me again.    "Stop blaming me for everything! You all started calling me a thief and started saying bad things about my parents, as soon as the teacher left. You pulled my hair, so I reached out and scratched you to stop you." I said, for the first time ever I raised my voice and told the teacher exactly what was happening. The teacher punished us all and for once, I was satisfied with the outcome.    Soon the school day was over and my mother came to pick me up. I was still upset because of the incident, but unlike last time i decided to tell my mother everything, I wouldn't miss a single thing out.    "How was school today?" My mother asked, pulling me into a hug.   "Not good. A lot of the student's items had gone missing, so the teacher searched everyone's bags and found all the missing stuff in mine. I promise I didn't take anything mom, it's not my fault, I don't know how it got there. The teacher took me to see Sister Daisy, to tell her what happened and she believed me, but when I got back to my class the teacher left again to talk to Sister Daisy. The other students started calling me a thief and saying bad things about you and dad. They cornered me and pulled my hair, so I scratched them yo make them stop and when the teacher came back, she punished all of us." I said, I know my mom will believe me. She knows I'm not a thief and would never take anything that didn't belong to me.    My mom just looked at me, I could see the worry in her eyes growing, as I told her everything that had happened.   "It's ok. I believe you, I know you wouldn't do that.  I have faith in Sister Daisy, she will get to the bottom of this." My mom said, smiling at me as she took my hand and we started to walk back home.   Sister Daisy's P.O.V    Two days had passed in the blink of an eye and I was continuously monitoring Tanvi’s class. I wanted to catch the thief red handed, so I asked the caretaker and the peon to keep an eye on the class as well. Yet again this kind of activity started in the same class. I noticed that Sunil was very over-friendly with Tanvi and being a naive girl she trusted Sunil. Tanvi shared all her candies, tiffin and her pencil and rubber with him.    One day Tanvi was late for the class and she reached school at 8.30 am. On that day one of the students lost his book. Everyone in the class pointed towards Tanvi, but Tanvi could not have done it as she had arrived late in the class. I called the caretaker and the peon in the class.   "Where was Tanvi when the incident took place?" I asked them both.   "Tanvi arrived at school at 8:30 am. I maintain a register, so that if any student arrives late, I do an entry in the register. Tanvi can't be the one who took it." The peon said, showing me the register, with the entry of Tanvi being late.   "I had not seen Tanvi before the prayers, as Tanvi entered the class after, but Sunil was in the class, while everyone was at prayer." The caretaker said, retelling what she saw. I knew Tanvi wasn't a thief, this brings me one step closer to finding the culprit.    "Why were you in the class?" I asked Sunil, his eyes big and he started sweating.    "I had a stomach ache and because of that I didn't go to prayer. The caretaker left me here and went back to the prayer hall." Sunil nervously said. This struck me as odd, I walked towards him.    "Sunil dear, do you still have a stomach ache?" I asked him and he nodded,    "Can you show me your bag please?" I asked him, but the colour in his face drained and he looked terrified.   Sunil's P.O.V    I was scared out of my mind, as I could not place the book in Tanvi’s Bag because she was late for school. I thought that the student from whom I had stolen the book and pencil from wouldn't notice anything strange. So I relaxed, thinking to myself that I had got away with it, again. I didn't expect Sister Daisy to doubt me and suspect me though.   I got scared because I know very well that my wrongdoings will come to the focus as soon as Sister Daisy will spot the book and the pencil in my bag.    "OH GOD I AM DONE." I thought to myself, but I didn't say it out loud. I just sat there, white as a sheet, staring at Sister Daisy.    Sister Daisy's P.O.V    By looking at Sunil's face, I was 100 percent sure that he had stolen the books and today he will be caught red handed. I checked his bag and as expected I found both the items in his bag. I looked at the items and then back to Sunil, I couldn't help, but glare at him. I don't understand how a student could be so vicious, but then I remembered that he has done the same things before. I never realised that he was in this class, so I never suspected him until I saw him here today.    On the previous occasion Sunil was caught red handed straight away and he stopped doing it, after he was punished. He must have found a scapegoat with Tanvi and started doing it again, because of him Tanvi had to suffer a huge blow and even got into a fight with her fellow classmates. Those student's not only said bad things about her, but also about her parents. I remembered all the words Tanvi enunciated on that day.   "I don’t want to go to school. All the students are bad, they only try to humiliate or bully me. I don’t want to go to the place where students hate and pull each other's legs. I will leave this school and these studies." I remember Tanvi saying these words and crying badly, even I had tears in my eyes. I felt pity by looking at Tanvi’s condition. It took a lot of effort for both her parents to calm her.   Tanvi's father was very angry and he was very adamant about changing Tanvi’s school, so I became even more determined to find out who the culprit was. This time I will make sure Sunil gets a severe punishment. He does not focus on studies and he commits such vicious deeds, he needs punishing. I took him to the staffroom and beat him with the cane that is used to severely punish the student's, this is only ever used in exceptional circumstances.    The next day I called Sunil's parents and asked them to come to the principal’s office. I narrated the whole story to Father Joseph and asked him to make a strong decision, as Sunil had got demoted in the same class repeatedly. Based on the situation Father Joseph decided to give a transfer certificate to his parents. Sunil and his parents arrived and were shown to the principal's office.    "I'm sorry I have had to call you here, but we cannot tolerate Sunil's behaviour anymore. He has been stealing from other students and putting the blame on another, he doesn't do his studies and constantly commits vicious deeds." Father Joseph sternly said to Sunil's parents.    "Can't you give him one more chance? He won't do it again." Sunil's father said, glaring angrily at Sunil.    "No I'm sorry I can't, he has already had too many chances and he has taken them all for granted. Here is his transfer certificate." Father Joseph said, refusing to listen to Sunil's parents pleas. So guys did you found the story interesting.
