Lay a hand on her again

1344 Words
Throughout the weeks, Kevin and Lindsey grew closer and started dating. They spent all their free time together, and she even started to hang out with Josh less and less. Every time she was talking to Josh, Kevin would come up behind her and find a reason to steal her away. No one noticed, but she was hiding behind her smiles. What she couldn’t do was tell Josh what was really going on. She couldn’t tell anyone. She was afraid that no one would believe her. The more time they spent together, the more possessive he became. He became angrier when she did something without him and went out with friends without his permission. It started as little fights and him saying that he was just jealous, and then it developed into him screaming at her when no one was around. He became more forceful with her, grabbing her and pulling her, leaving bruises on her arms, but they would always be in places where she would be able to hide them. She became jumpier, looking behind her when she heard noises. He wouldn’t let her hang out with anyone and he had a tracker on her phone so he knew where she was at all times. This relationship made her lose some of her closest friends. She had no one to blame but herself. Why didn’t she believe Josh? All she wanted to do was run back into his arms. Josh would try to talk to her and every time he did, Kevin would come out of nowhere, like he knew where they were. He started to feel defeated, he missed her, and he couldn’t even talk to her. He couldn’t text her because he always had her phone with him when they were together, and he would check her messages every day to see what she was saying and to who. There was a confrontation one day in the locker room at the end of the football season. “Hey man, can I talk to you for a sec?” Josh asked as he approached Kevin. He was laughing with his friends about the stuff him and Lindsey did. It made his blood boil. He knew she wouldn’t do anything remotely like that with anyone unless she was ready. “Hahaha, yea, what’s up lil man?” He laughed at his face. He rolled his eyes and continued his question. “Can I take Lindsey with me for dinner this weekend? You see...” And Kevin just started laughing at him. “You honestly cannot be asking me this dude. She’s mine, plain and simple.” He laughed and turned to the team. “ Do you believe him? Asking to take my girl out on a date?” “That’s not what I was going to do!” “Regardless, it’s a no and if you ask her she’s gonna say no.” he stood tall, puffing out his chest to make him more intimidating. It didn’t faze Josh. Josh walked right up to him, both their chests against each other, starting at each other with anger. “I know what you do to girls, man. Don’t test me.” “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” And with that, Kevin walked out of the locker room to a waiting Lindsey. He rushed out after him and saw him grab her by the arm and forcefully pull her away. This made him angry, and he started stomping after them. “Kevin, please stop you’re hurting me again.” She cried in pain. She could feel another bruise coming. “Shut up you b***h!” he screamed under his breath when they were outside on the football field. He tossed her on the ground. “Get up!” he grabbed her again in the same spot, causing her to wince in pain. “What the hell did you say to that friend of yours?” he demanded. “No-nothing I promise Kevin.” She started to form tears in her eyes. “Please let go of me, you’re hurting me.” He gripped harder. At this point, she was full blown crying. “KEVIN!” he turned around quickly right when he was about to raise his hand and smack her for crying. “LEAVE HER ALONE!” Josh screamed at him. Lindsey got up quickly and dusted herself off and wiped away her tears. “Jo-osh it’s okay. I’m okay.” She stuttered. “Like hell you are. Lindsey, go over there with Mark.” Mark, one of the drummers from the band, was behind him. They were good friends and grew up with each other. She got up and started to move towards them when Kevin grabbed her arm. “She’s not going anywhere, aren’t ya babe?” He laughed. She was shaking with fear. “No.” “See? That’s my good girl.” He laughed. “Come on, lets go.” She started to turn around. The next thing he knew, Josh was pulling his arm, so they were looking at each other. “Lindsey…please…go see Mark.” He pleaded with his eyes. She nodded slightly to him and started walking to Mark. This made Kevin burn with rage. She could hear him start to huff and puff and that made her run quicker, right into Mark’s arms. He embraced her and put her behind him, protecting her just in case something were to happen. Kevin started to stomp his way to Josh, rage-filled, mad, because he had just taken his girl from him. Before Kevin could even reach Josh or say anything, he swung and knocked him right in the jaw. Kevin stumbled back, gripped his jaw and lip, which were now bleeding. “I swear to God Kevin, I fuckin swear, if I ever see you lay your hands on her again, you will be wishing you were dead.” He said through gritted teeth. “Is that a threat?” he recomposed himself, puffing out his chest again. “It’s a promise.” They glared at each other. Behind Mark, Lindsey let out a small whisper. “Josh…please…take me home.” She said with her head down, in shame, embarrassed. He ran to her and embraced her in the biggest hug she needed. All his love, compassion and care were put in that one hug and he brought her to his car. Once they got there, he opened the passenger door and helped her into the car as she was still holding and hugging herself. He went into the driver’s side, shut the door and turned the car on. Once the music started playing on the radio, she let out all the tears. All she could say repeatedly was that she was sorry, and the tears kept flooding. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he whispered, holding her hand. She looked up at him with her foggy eyes, tears just pouring out. He took his hand and cupped her cheek, using his thumb to brush her tears away. “I was scared. I’m so sorry Josh. I should have listened to you.” She cried. He held her some more as they sat there for a while, just holding each other. He was there to comfort her, no matter how long she needed. Since that day, he will always be with her, protecting her from afar. He picked her up every day, even though she lived within walking distance of the school. He always waited for her after class to walk her to her next and soon, the color and the laughter soon started to come back to her. She was slowly living again. Slowly becoming happy. Kevin avoided them at all costs. He was not about to reopen that door. To him, no girl was worth that much trouble. He wanted to make sure that, no matter what happened, Lindsey knew that Josh was there. Josh would always be there to protect her and she would always be there to support him.
