After a short sleep, Dakota and Chip set out with Warren leading them as soon as it was light enough to see the landscape. The trek to the grounds of the Capitol lawn would take most of the day. Warren asked Dakota about his life in Dallas with Grayson before the Harvesting. He tried to draw Chip into the conversation but the young man responded only in sullen, monosyllabic answers. Only when Dakota spoke to him did Chip appear to come out of his funk. Warren shrugged and gave up trying to talk to him. The day was brighter because the clouds overhead seemed thinner, even though the sun hadn’t made another appearance. Or maybe it’s just my imagination getting overly optimistic.
