CHAPTER FIVE Elliot waited for Bekah to reply. Based on how red her cheeks were and how dilated her pupils were, she wasn’t immune to him. But he had a feeling she was overthinking things. “I just broke up with my boyfriend,” she stuttered. “I’m not proposing marriage, Bekah.” She wrinkled her nose. “No, I mean, yes, I know.” She slapped her forehead. “Oh my God, I’m making this so awkward.” “Yeah, you are.” At least that made her laugh. “Let’s walk. Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll find another pelican we can save,” said Elliot. Bekah didn’t balk, at least. They went to the beach, near where they’d first run into each other.
