RYLEE Marina did not seem to have heard the part where Athos said that this marriage wouldn't be real, but just a lie made up to drive my mother away. She was all excited, trying to convince me to go shopping for a wedding dress, get her hair fancy and even throw an after-party. But I was not all that excited. I would face that event for what it really was: just one more obstacle to be overcome on the path towards my emancipation. Besides, we needed to be discreet so the police did not find out that Athos was leaving town for a few hours. I had to insist that he eat something before we left, as he was too worn out, tiredness, hunger and the days spent in jail were evident on his face. We left the house around two in the afternoon, in the car driven by the driver, heading towards Belize.
