NINETEEN By the time Johnny got back to the club, it was almost opening time. The bouncers stood at the door laughing and waitresses stalked around the dance floor as Johnny slipped through the entrance without a glance from anyone. Few punters graced the interior yet, but the music pumped as the DJ went through one last rehearsal. Johnny crossed to the far end of the main bar and lifted the hatch. The barman, doing what barmen do best – dry glasses – barely gave him a look as Johnny eased himself behind the counter and opened the private door to a rear corridor.
