Benayeem stood with the other singers in the coronation ceremony, thinking about his sister. He had hardly seen Isika in the days leading up to her coronation. She stayed still for only moments at a time, landing to eat and then fluttering off for robe fittings, lessons on coronation rituals, and a whole series of cleansing baths and preparations. When the two of them were together, she was often somewhere else in her mind, and if Jabari was with them, Benayeem might as well have been invisible.
