Chapter 19 – Deadly Things Jerry walked in a daze. His face was hot and had begun to blister under the sun's assault. The landscape wavered with every step, and the roiled air made the horizon dance, adding to the sensation of encroaching madness. His blood was loud in his ears, coursing through his veins with a recurring swishing sound. He licked his parched, cracked lips, but there wasn't enough saliva to do much good. He swallowed, a dry, rough swallow that chafed his throat, and then let his mouth fall open again. His undershirt had become soaked with sweat early on.
