Then she ran to her own room to fling herself down on her bed and burst into tears. Because Heloise was the last member of her family left, she had always thought of her with warmth and love, but now as she lay there she knew that that feeling was more imaginary than real. She had imagined herself into thinking that she loved Heloise and Heloise loved her, simply because without that love she was completely and utterly alone. Now that she knew exactly what Heloise felt about her, it was as if she had lost something precious and it had left a void in her life that nothing could heal. She cried for a long time.
