Chapter 3 Hells Awaits Her

1667 Words
Cassandra’s heart leaped in her chest, she heard what the wolf had muttered to her. I could sense the scent of my mate, her wolf, Raven, whispered once again. Cassandra could sense Raven’s happiness, it was flowing inside her. She had never felt like this before, her wolf cheered happily and rejoiced in the knowledge that her mate was near. Cassandra shifted back into her human form and decided to follow her mate’s scent. “You scum, what the he11 are you doing over there? Wandering aimlessly? Don’t you dare slack in your work.” the voice was dripping with disdain. Cassandra stopped in her tracks, her eyes were a little startled, with calmness she didn’t possess she made her way toward the housekeeper, Mrs. Wards, who was fuming at Cassandra’s said ‘slacking’. “Stop looking at me like this. Did you forget that you have to clean the drill ground today? Landon needs the ground for practicing and it should be cleaned. If I hear that there is any problem with it, I will whip your skin raw.” Mrs. Wards' eyes were narrowed in slits as she threatened Cassandra. In her eyes, she was just like a bug, which was born to be squashed under her foot. Cassandra nodded and reluctantly left for the ground, her wolf was not happy, little did the wolf know what Cassandra’s life was. But everything was about to change. There was a little chirp in Cassandra’s step today like she wasn’t beaten yesterday. “Cassandra let me help you,” Tory smiled at Cassandra, her smile felt genuine and it really was. Tory was the only person who talked to Cassandra nicely, she treated her like a normal person and in her company, Cassandra felt happy. But this was again the reason why she didn’t want Tory to get acquainted with her. Cassandra was aware that if anyone saw Tory with her, they would make Tory’s life he11. And Cassandra liked Tory and she couldn’t do that to one person who was willingly good to her. "Thank you, Tory, but it's okay. You don't need to involve yourself in this." Cassandra said to Tory and created a safe distance between them. “I am leaving but always remember that I am here.” Tory looked at her. Cassandra’s heart swelled listening to Tory’s words and tears welled up in her eyes. Tory’s friendship was an unexpected gift in Cassandra’s otherwise barren life. Cassandra gave Tory a wobbly smile and left her. The drill ground was a destined spot, where the werewolves fighter trained and practiced their skills. Cassandra enjoyed her duty and it has always been the best part of her whole day. You seem overly excited for a cleaning duty, Raven whispered sensing Cassandra’s excitement. “Yes, it’s just I really like to watch their technique and the way they fight. It’s interesting to see them get trained.” I replied to her. Maybe, you just want to learn it by yourself. Raven piped in because she knew Cassandra more than Cassandra knew herself. “You are right, it makes me feel safe. I don’t want to feel like I am a failure. I can't help but feel that I failed June, if only I had been stronger, if only I had known how to protect myself better, she might still be alive." her voice was laced with regret. “No one in this world could provide me security or protect me. But this training gives me the power to do that for myself. That I am enough. I want to feel safe.” Cassandra whispered the last line as if she was praying. “Stop giving yourself useless shackles and do your work, have you forgotten? We could possibly find our mates today.” Raven interruppted. She became refreshed, but as she was almost done cleaning up the playground a group of werewolf warriors came out of the entrance to the training yard, and at the head of the group was none other than Landon with his bronzed skin. Raven screamed so loud in Cassandra’s head that she couldn’t continue the work at hand, her gaze turned dull as she saw Landon’s eyes lock on her, soon his eyes turned from surprise to disgust. Her stomach felt like she had swallowed a boulder and she started to tremble all over. As her mouth was about to be taken over by Raven’s strong pressurized consciousness. She saw Landon quickly rush toward her. He immediately snagged her by the neck and warned her in a voice only two of them could hear. “If you dare to say that word I hate when you say it, I won’t hesitate to remove your tongue.” Cassandra was thrown to the ground by him and the place where she was pushed by him yesterday had not yet healed and she immediately felt spikes digging into her heart. This realization crushed every hope that Cassandra ever had for a mate. There was no saving now. Only he11 awaits her. Cassandra wanted to leave with her dignity intact but like always luck wasn’t on her side. “Here comes the lousy princess,” A big burly man, snickered, as he looked at the mess Cassandra was, he kicked her lying form and snickered filled the crowd. They started taunting her humiliating her. Cassandra let out a whimper, in pain but also there was an underlying rage in her voice. Something that wasn't there before. Maybe the presence of her wolf brought it, but this whimper changed something in Landon too. His eyes turned from steely gray to scarlet red. He lunged at Cassandra, his powerful grip closing around her throat, squeezing the life out of her as he seethed with a venomous hatred. "I wish you would die," Landon hissed his voice, a venomous whisper that cut through the air. "But my father thinks you should suffer, and I agree. Life is your punishment, Mamba. It's the best way to make you pay for everything that's gone wrong. Why should you get an easy death, you should suffer. Every moment of your life should be filled with pain and agony. You should go through he11 every day, like my father and I do." Cassandra’s eyes were filled with tears and she gasped for her breath, she struggled in his hold, but Landon’s grip was ruthless. He continued to choke her. Cassandra clawed at his hands that were branded on her throat, but her strength was nowhere near Landon’s. “Pl…” Cassandra sputtered. Her vision blurred and the realization that her mate didn’t want her burned her heart. Not hers but Raven’s. Raven held her whimpers inside, even though she longed for his presence, the way he was treating Cassandra was setting her off. She didn’t like it. Cassandra was a moment away from slipping into unconsciousness, and darkness engulfed her but not before she heard the heart-shattering words, “I reject you,” But did he say those words, or were they the figment of her imagination? ** Cassandra slowly stirred up, her head pounding. She noticed that her surroundings were different from her usual cell. The room was bathed in a gentle, dim light, its warmth making Cassandra's mind think. As her eyes adjusted, Cassandra's gaze fell on a familiar picture that sat on the nightstand beside the bed. It was a picture of June and Landon when he was a kid. Cassandra was in Landon’s room, he might have brought her here, but why would he do that? Did he regret his action of choking her and realize that she was the one for him or maybe he was afraid that she would tell everyone that he was her mate? He might have brought her here to silence her and this thought sent Cassandra spiraling down the dark road. She touched the bruised skin of her throat, and painful tingles spread through her body. It’s nothing like that. I could still feel him. Nobody can hurt their own mate. Raven tried to assure Cassandra, but Cassandra wasn’t the one delusional here. “But he did. You saw him, what he did, he choked me until I fainted. So sorry, If I don’t believe you.” Cassandra retorted. Things have changed. People die or go mad when their fated mate dies. Raven sent soothing energy toward Cassandra. Cassandra snorted at her wolf’s delusions. Because Cassandra knew how ruthless Landon truly was. There was only one emotion in his heart and that was hatred. Summoning her courage, Cassandra decided to seek out Landon, to have a conversation with him. He clearly had a motive if he brought her here, so let’s see what he had in his mind. As she moved to get up, her ears caught the sound of movement from somewhere within the room. The pleasure-filled sounds wafted over her ears, making goosebumps scattered on her body. Cassandra saw a bed with just a veil separating the worlds inside and outside the bed. She headed toward the direction of the bed, and what she saw there made her fall to the ground, with a heavy thud. Landon was there n*ked, he was having s*x with another woman. Tory, Cassandra’s only friend in the whole Pack. Her mate was with her friend. Landon looked at Cassandra with a cruel smile, he didn’t stop pounding Tory, instead, his ferocity increased. The searing pain shot through her heart, her breaths became heavy. Raven screamed in agony, her rage boiled up, making Cassandra tremble with anger. Tears welled up in her eyes, and the pain was overbearing. She didn’t know if there were any tears left for her. “Wh…what have I done to deserve this? Why are you treating me like this?” Cassandra asked in a trembling voice. Landon's response was cold and unyielding. He looked at Cassandra with a hardened gaze and replied, "Traitors deserve everything that comes their way."
