Growing up

Kate’s POV Six years later “Kat?” I was woken up by a soft voice and gentle hands which we shake me to wake up. I groaned softly, rubbing my eyes to see what was wrong. “Hey Ally, is something wrong?”  I rubbed my eyes, trying to open them. “I am bleeding,” She said to me as I swallowed hard, I had been telling her to watch herself so she can know when she starts her first menstruation. “Oh Ally, how are you feeling?  Are you feeling any pain?  Did you- u,” I asked her several questions when she just held her tummy. “It must be the cramps, I am coming” I rushed out of bed to get her painkillers, I grabbed a sanitary pad from my drawers handing it to her. “Take this, it will help you feel better” I gave her some pain killers as I helped her off the bed, we went to the bathroom and I taught her how to use a sanitary pad. “It’s always hard the first few days, but it gets better as you get used,”  I said to her, showing her how to put the pad. It had been exactly six years since my parents died and I have taken over the business from the business consultant that we had used. I showed her and gave her one to show me how she would do it; she put the pad down nicely as I smiled at her, giving her a nod to assure her she did the right thing. “Why don’t you go to bed as I clean up your room?”  I questioned her as she went to my bed getting in bed, I looked at the time and it was already 4 am, I just had to wake up because I would soon start my day/ I finished washing her bedsheets and prepared breakfast for her and myself.  I nicely left in on the cooker before I went back to my room to take a shower. “I found her awake trying to get dressed as I entered my room. “Are you thinking of going to school?  Are you feeling better?”  I questioned quickly, checking her temperature if she was okay. “Yes, I am fine just the cramps but I am sure I will be fine,” She said to me as I nodded my head walking to the bathroom to take a shower. I sat in the bathing tub enjoying the warm water as it hit my skin. I finished bathing and went to get dressed so I can go to work. I went downstairs and found Allison having her breakfast as I poured myself a cup of coffee. “When did you say your school trip is?”  I asked her as fixed her hair. She looked up at me briefly before lowering her head. “It’s tomorrow, but I didn’t think I want to go,” she said to me as I raised my eyebrows. It was a day out with her class, but she didn’t want to go. “Why?  Why don’t you want to go?”  I asked her, putting some strands of hair behind her ear. “Well, I just don’t feel like I am part of them, I didn’t even feel like getting on a metro bus with people that hardly talk to me,” She explained to me as I sighed heavily putting down the cup of coffee After our parents died Allison became completely someone else. She became this person who wanted nothing to do with people. “Allison comes on; I am sure it will be fun. Talk about….”  I tried to convince her cut she moved away. “I don’t want to have fun, I would rather be at the library then deal with being with those people,” She said to me as I swallowed hard, I didn’t want to push it so I just let her be. She sat down eating her food as I sighed heavily going to grab fruit for breakfast. When she finished eating, we grabbed our things and made our way to the car. I had to drop her off at school before I went to work. I reluctantly hummed to the song which was playing on the radio without talking to her. After driving for a while, I pulled over in her school. She quickly grabbed her things and jumped out of the car. “Hey Wait up!”  I shouted after her when she left without her food. “You forgot your food,” I said to her as she faked a smile, I called her name again and she turned around her eyebrows raised. I walked up to her and went to kiss her forehead. “I will see you later,” I said to her, turning around to leave. My beautiful sister who was chubby had lost so much weight and now she was looking like a stick with clothes hanging to it. I got in my car and went to work. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>  After I got to work, I found people chatting and just walked past them saying nothing; I asked my assistant to send me my schedule so I can work out which ones were more important. “Why do you have such a long face?”  Paula asked me as she walked into my office, without checking if I was okay or not. “Well, Allison doesn’t want to go with her friends on a trip and I tried to talk to her but she simply shut me out like always,” I explained to her. She sat back, looking at me with pitiful eyes. “I think this is unfair to you, you keep wanting to reach out to her, but she shut you out. I honestly feel you should leave her alone,” She said to me as I took a deep breath. “I can’t, she’s’ the only person I have so I can’t really leave her alone. I guess I just have to keep trying maybe one day I will reach out to her:  I explained to Paula who just shrugged her shoulders. I sighed heavily, looking at our family picture and her recent portrait.  I had hoped that one day she will be different, she would move on from the loss of my parents. We need to  start living
