CHAPTER 15 Lisa and Trace arrive at their suite just as the crescent moon disappears behind clouds and the pitch-black sky comes alive with lightning strikes. Booms of thunder warn of approaching rain. Within minutes, sheets of water pound the deck in a deafening roar. The siblings stand and watch the display through the picture windows. “Someone’s been here,” Lisa whispers to Trace. “You’re sure?” “Positive. I left my briefcase on the couch with its shoulder strap draped across the arm. Look where it’s at now.” Trace turns and stares. “Could Ryan have picked it up?” “I was the last one out of the suite this afternoon.” Trace squeezes her hand. “Check to see if anything’s missing.” “I will. But, going forward, it’ll be wise to keep important papers in the car trunk.” “Probably bes
