Riding my bike to church, I think of last night and what Sheryl said. She showed up after my parents left and we hung out in the living room, watching Dirty Dancing again. She’s in love with Patrick Swayze.
Last night, we talked about our futures and getting out of this little town. She’s very serious about making it as an actress, and her ambition is contagious. I started thinking about university. Now I’m pretty confident I’ll make it out there as a journalist. She suggested we write down five goals so we can look at them in ten years and see if we succeeded at attaining any of them.
These were mine. Graduate from university. Go to Berlin with Alistair. Start my own political science magazine. Move in with Alistair. Adopt a dog with Alistair.
