“I…think…” Max looked between Kai and Cal. A solid minute of silence created even more awkwardness in the room. “Oh, I know. I’m going to go check on Loraina.” She skidded to the room on the other side of the apartment and quietly shut the door behind her as quickly as she could.

“Yeah-uh,” she cleared her throat, “my room?” she pointed her thumb behind her.
“Um,” he looked around, “is anyone else here?”
“You mean Alex?”
“Or your dad.”
“Nobody else is here and Ethan won’t be back for a while I think. He’s helping Gabe find Katelyn to check on her.”
