She had known a little about him from her father’s friends, that he was a Lothario who made love to many women, moving easily from one to the other. She knew that he had resisted marriage in case it spoilt his pleasure. She had also heard that he was good-looking. But as she looked at him now she discovered that nothing she had heard bore any relevance to the real man. He was, quite simply, overwhelming.
