Becoming Royal — 7

1955 Words
I expected the witch to live in a cottage just as seen in most fairy tales since the moon goddess has decided to twist my fate in other to make me into some Cinderella. My gaze can’t drift off the mounted opened scroll on a shelf like wall and the young face of the witch. “Sit!” She orders as she claps her hands loudly, causing me to move my hands over my ears. Shifting my gaze to Maximus, who shrugs and make his palms meet in a prayerful manner, I do the same as him and I watch the witch mix some colored powder which seems more like a gas, but at least it can be seen with the naked eyes. “You had a bad fate, but you have been given a second chance to re-make your fate into good one.” She says and I nod. There is silence. More silence and continuous silence as I stare at the witch to say more. Like, that can not be all she has to say to me. What about a way to return to my body and let Lyra take over body? If I can’t return can I at least get a guide? Or, am I meant to create a guide myself and make everyone follow suit not excluding the king? “Ask the goddess for more please.” I plead and she frowns. “The goddess has shown me what you need to know, leave now and work on her only message for you.” The sudden change in her tone doesn’t surprise me much as she had frowned the moment I began questioning her. “Does the goddess really have nothing to say about the exchange of souls? Where’s Lyra’s soul and where is my body?” I ask and she stands. “You had a bad fate, but you have been given a second chance to re-make your fate into a good one. Take her out of here Maximus or I would never accept a visit from you or your mate.” She shouts and turn away when I move to hold her feet. “How bad was my fate?” I ask. “Take her away.” She orders and I stand. “You aren’t above the royal family, are you?” I ask and she stops in her track. She turns to look at me and I raise my head. “Shall I run to the palace now to tell the king you sent his son’s mate and next Luna out of your place because I asked a mare question you can easily answer without making me seem like I am some beggar?” I switch tones and she sits. “Go ahead and tell the king you are not the real Lyra then and see what happens to you. About returning to wherever you came from? You had a bad fate, but you have been given a second chance to re-make your fate into a good one.” She replies with an equal pitch and walk out of sight. “Can she stop repeating those words? They aren’t solving any of my problems. You told me she could help me bring back Lyra and return to being Olivia Haynes, but she keeps repeating my ill fate and how I have been given a second chance to change my fate.” I fall on my butts and bury my face in my palms as sweat creases its way to my temple. “I think you should take the goddess’s words and work on it.” Maximus says and put out his hand in other to aid me to stand. Ignoring his helping hand, I stand myself and walk out without waiting for him. Increasing my pace in other for him not to catch up, I look over my shoulder and again trip over a tree’s fig but this time I am not beneath a weeping willow and this hurts much more than the pain from yesterday. Groaning, I moan and push away Maximus’s hands when he attempts to help me again. “The witch can’t force the goddess to speak. I told you the goddess is a supreme being and…” “And she does whatever she likes including tampering with my life… Ouch.” I cut him off and he takes my hand. He pulls me to stand and raise my gown a bit enough to expose my blood stained dress from the cut created by the tree’s fig, but the cut is nowhere to be found, same as the pain. “Wh-wh-what- was that?” I ask and he smiles like a father who is proud of his child. “You are beginning to show signs of who you are.” He replies. “Who am I?” I ask and he smiles again. “What I heard about Lyra from her from Vienna; is Lyra’s inability to shift or have signs of becoming a shape shifter. Not even the ability to hear from afar.” He answers. “Who is Vienna and how am I the shape shifter now when I was just an ordinary human with the ability to get hurt and feel more pains than I have actually felt from my first night of living in this medieval?” “I will give you the answers you need instead.” The pack witch answers as she stands at the main exit of her building and I scoff. “You think I shouldn’t be taken away from your presence now?” I reply and she sighs. “Come back if you need answers.” She says and disappears. Maximus keeps staring at me and I make another mental note to learn a trick to disappear whenever I embarrass myself. Walking back into the witch’s castle like building, I occupy my previous space and she offers Maximus a sit on a sofa on the far end of the almost empty hall. “Your body was human, but did you ever test your soul? You and Lyra had some unlike forces that attracted you to each other. Go and make good use of your opportunity to heal fast from pains, hear from afar, have an ordained companion, meet your inner friend who knows you more than you actually know yourself, run as fast as you can ever imagine and even more shift.” I have come to a conclusion that she likes talking half-way or leaving me confused. “What kind of force?” “That I won’t be able to tell you.” She replies and I scoff. She is a witch, right? “Is it because you do not know or you do not want to tell me?” “Believe whatever you want.” She answers and I stand. “Thank you.” I reply and she bows a bit as I walk out. “How old did you imagine her to be?” Maximus asks as soon as we are far away from the witch’s mini palace. “Twenty-four.” “One more?” “Thirty, but she looks like someone in her mid-twenties. She should probably be twenty five or six.” “Wrong. She is four hundred and thirty five years old. Way older than my father. The oldest member of the pack. The one with the longest life span among the rest of her primary family and one of the most respected member of our pack.” He replies and I widen my eyes at him as my mouth falls open gradually. The hell! I was talking to someone who has almost lived for five hundred years? “Why does she look that young? She uses portions?” I ask and he grins. “The portions, what are they about?” “Magic mixtures?” “Is that some modern city term?” He asks as we approach the cart that’s has been waiting to take us back to the palace. “Yes. If you show me your mate. I promise to teach you more about the world ahead of us.” I reply and he grins. “What other abilities have you began to notice?” “No other than, hearing from afar and healing fast. Is there supposed to be more? Are you willing to teach me?” “Only if you agree to reach me about the world ahead. Does this question of yours also mean what I am thinking?” He asks and I face him. “What are your thoughts?” “You have accepted this new world.” He answers and I sigh. “It is not like I have a choice.” I reply and he chuckles. The rest of the horse’s slow ride is filled with silence as there are no more questions or discussions left start. I get off first and Maximus after only to find Mateo discussing some pack related issues with some men. Walking past him, there’s this weird feeling of attraction towards him and I look over my shoulder to find him staring at me too. “We will complete this meeting at night. I have some other urgent matter to attend.”I hear him dismiss them and I hasten my footsteps. “Do you care about your mate or you accepted her in other to retain your position as the next in line?” I move to hide as Maximus’s question hits my ears. “Why are you concerned about my relationship with my mate?” Mateo’s voice is laced with so much threat, but Maximus’s undefeated facade amazes me. “Lyra isn’t someone you should treat the way you treat other females.” Maximus retorts and Mateo lets out a hysteric laugh. “Brother, is Monica aware of your new obsession with my mate?” “It is funny how you think everyone is like you.” Maximus replies and walk past him. Mateo is really an asshole. Who takes a random lady as his wife to be and then ignore her for hours? “It is a good thing you think of me as an ass.” He comments as he approaches me and I stand firmly with and unfazed expression on. Can my thoughts be heard? “Yes, mate.” He answers and my fingers form into a fist on either sides of me. ‘You can block him if you do not appreciate intruding your thoughts, but It is not bad to have our mate hear our thoughts.’ The same voice Maximus had called my inner wolf says and I scrunch my brows. “Since you heard my thoughts, why can’t I hear yours?” I ask and he traps me against the wall with his hands. “If I were you, I would do anything to break our mate bond because you were only chosen as a result of the sudden mate pull.” That wasn’t supposed to hurt, but It feels like my heart has been shred into pieces. “I never want to end up with someone like you. I crave a better man who deserves someone like me.” I reply and he laughs. “You mean Adrian? Can you resist me?” He asks and laugh. My boss was way hotter and I dare not indirectly request to be sacked. “You mean nothing to me, if I mean nothing to you. I do not believe in any of this…” I trail off to gesture between us and he smirks.” “You will be begging to be mated.” He says more like a promise and I display my middle finger before turning away.
