-Elena- It had been a week of rest, and I was growing weary of being cooped up in the house. My aunt had hovered over me, constantly asking how I was doing and if I needed anything. She had barely slept, pacing around the ground floor at night. I tried peeking out my door once, only to see her walking back and forth, occasionally stopping to check the windows and make sure the police car was still there. I wanted to help, but I understood that this was her way of keeping us safe—by staying vigilant. I wished I could ease her fears, but I knew there was nothing I could say to calm her.
