CHAPTER 8
The next day.
It was their first Saturday in the Kingdom. They’ve decided to spend it at the Weston Estate. Consequently, it was also the first time Elisha had seen the place. She was very pleased with what she saw.
They arrived at 10 in the morning. The family of three with a few staff members from the palace including a nanny, a helper, and some security personnel. It would be their routine every weekend. Spending time away from the throne, where they could experience living like a normal family —no position, no crown in their midst.
“Gosh! This is beautiful, Alik.” She exclaimed as soon as they entered their home.
“Yeah! Indeed. But wait till you see the vineyard and clear river that flows from the valley, it is breathtaking!“ Alik remarked.
“Who was the previous owner?” Elisha asked. The Kingdom Estates did not own that property.
“Stamford, the Duke himself who passed away decades ago. It was sold by the grandson and only heir, who now lives with his family in Germany. They settled there and have no wish to come back. I guess he is one of the few who's not interested in titles and royalties. He's happily married and has two children.” Alik explained as he toured Elisha inside the small castle, now their home.
“The same as your Dad, no interest in royal titles,” she commented.
Khalan Weston, Alik’s father, was supposed to be the sole heir of his grandfather, an Earl in England, and the head of the Weston Estate in the UK. Khalan did not activate his royal title when his grandfather died. His grandfather's estate, except for the ones owned by his father and the majority share of the company KD Limited, was what he touched to protect the company. The rest was still in the hands of trustees.
“Which is a good decision. Otherwise, we all lived held by protocols crushing our throats. It was his decision, and we supported him wholeheartedly. We never knew of that until I had problems with you. He was irked when he learned about it. I was not qualified to marry you since I was not a royal. While, in fact, blue blood is in my veins, and it is an England blue blood.” He chuckled, slightly boasting.
They sat on the couch while Elik ran around the place, followed by his nanny.
“Wow! All the more, I respect Dad. His ideals of richness are commendable,” Elisha gasped.
“Dad is a self-made man. He was once lured by wealth and gave up Mom to follow his grandfather’s wish, but he wasn’t happy. He learned his lesson the hard way. He realized he couldn’t be happy without Mom by his side. Therefore, he turned his back on everything. He was rich already on his own. He never needed his birthright or his inheritance, but it was rightfully his. He still got it in the end, but only his parents' part; the rest he's not interested in.”
She gulped, remembering why it had been easy for Alik to adhere to what the council wanted and choose to marry her still. “Is that why you chose to drop everything ng when the advisory council gave you a hard time?”
“Yeah!” He sighed. “However, in fairness to your council, they want to protect the interests of your Kingdom. What if you end up with someone whose intent was to get as many profits from here and send it elsewhere? It would rob the kingdom of its chance for progress, which is unfair to you and your people. Your COUNCIL has a point.” He explained objectively.
“They didn’t realize how rich you are. Denying you to conduct business elsewhere robbed you of your right to make more profits.” There was a bitter-sweet smile on her face. She knew how unfair it was for Alik.
“Well, that was temporary, until we can prove that I have no bad intentions for the Kingdom. I didn't marry you for the title, Elisha. I married you for YOU, even if you are a beggar, I will still marry you."
Elisha took a few breaths after Alik spoke, and then said "Thank you Alik."
Alik smirked. "All for you my Queen. Anyway, Luke and Dad are there to temporarily handle the business side while I concentrate on how to bring stability and development to Giorginia.” He leaned his head back and glanced at his wife. Her cherry-like red lips were as if permanently swollen due to the kisses they shared whenever they were alone. Everything he had, he was more than willing to give up a chance to be with her. No amount of richness was comparable to her.
“You are so lucky. You have them! But I am the luckiest. Imagine me having a handsome billionaire by my side?” the rims of her crystal-like blue eyes were turning scarlet as tears began to form. How lucky was she to have found him? She had been thanking the heavens for giving Alik to her. --her great support, the solid wall behind her.
Alik knew that Elisha would cry if he didn't cr*ck a joke. Hence, he jested and uttered c*ckily.
“Yeah! You are definitely lucky to have me!” He pretended not to be affected by her sudden change of mood and sputtered words haughtily.
Elisha gawked at him and said, “Gosh! Your face is really thick.”
Alik laughed loudly. “I was blessed to have a Queen for a wife. Who would have a Queen as PA over weekends? And make the Queen his servant every night? It was only me, the most wonderful man in the world.” He teased her further, which made Elisha laugh out loud.
When the couple was together, the Queen was not a Queen. She was a proud wife of a magnificent man. Just like any wife, her duty was to serve her supportive husband the best way she could.
"Alik Weston, you are the most obnoxious man I know." She knew he was joking, but it had been their way of endearment --bickering with each other, every opportunity they had.
"Of course, it's one of the reasons why you love me." he pinned her on the couch. His light brown eyes gazed at her with a streak of gold. He looked at her with desire in his eyes. He lowered his lips to hers.
Before Alik could deepen their kiss, Elik jumped in front of them and called them...
"Mommy! Daddy! Don't kiss!" The guard caught them. Elik positioned himself in the middle of his parents.
The happy family laughed at each other, and Elik became their focus of attention. Alik and Elisha tickled and kissed him until Elik's loud laughs echoed in the entire reception hall.
Despite the difficulties they went through, their reward was them being together now --pain and sufferings were worth it.
Later that afternoon, Alik and Elisha visited the vineyard and the small winery. It was not for commercial use but for family consumption only. He planned to engage a wine vintner to help them produce top-grade wines for gifts and family consumption. He tasted the grapes and he knew they were the top variety and very sweet. They just need a good vintner to supervise the process of fermentation to produce top-grade wines.
Alik also showed her the river, and Elisha loved everything inside their small estate.
It was indeed their home --their space away from power, protocols, and authority. The place where they could be just them, Mr. Alik and Mrs. Elisha Weston and their son Elik and future sons and daughters.
