Chapter3

NORA Mira's smirk was typical, but this time, it hit me differently. She tossed her hair back, making sure the mark on her neck was covered. She had done what she wanted to do. I do not blame her, I don't have any problem with Mira. It wasn't her fault that she was Sylvester's mate. I was jealous of her instead. It was Sylvester who I should be mad at for breaking our promise. When I got to the room to freshen up, I saw Sylvester already waiting for me. “You took longer than usual today.” He said, as he stood, and hugged me. I didn't respond. I couldn't. The disgust on my face said it all. Not only had he not rejected her, but he had also marked her. That mark, it wasn't just a mark. It meant something. It meant he had touched her in ways I didn't want to think about. It meant something happened between them that they couldn't resist. “Despite the wedding being canceled, Alpha’s had insisted on attending the dinner party tonight. I guess they had already pictured it as a form of reunion.” Sylvester said to me. Yet, no matter his words. No matter his assurance. Everything had ended. It didn't end when he betrayed me by telling Eric our secret, it didn't end when he canceled the wedding and brought his mate home. But the mark, there was no excuse for it. I have no business with the dinner. It was meant to be an after-wedding dinner party, since there was no wedding, there would not be any dinner. “I won’t attend,” I said, my voice cold. I moved around the room, dropping my things carelessly, trying to ignore the gnawing pain in my chest. Mira was his mate. Since it was no longer an after-wedding dinner, but a reunion, he could attend with her. Though, I said all these internally. I craved his validation. I wanted Sylvester to tell me that I would go with him, I wanted him to tell me that I still mattered. I want clarity so bad. “If you say so. Mira had insisted on going with me earlier. I guess we would attend together.” He revealed. “I will give you some privacy now.” He said, before walking away. Sylvester, who never left my side, now wanted me to have privacy. I don't want to talk about the fact that he hardly spent time with me anymore. I only saw him once or twice. Not wanting to act like I was in pain, I moved to the shower immediately. Maybe, just maybe, the water can flush the pain. Later that evening, everyone had gone for the dinner party, so I decided to have a stroll. The pack would be quiet and no one would mock me. Sylvester didn't bother to inform me before leaving. Neither had Eric or Anastasia said anything to me. I observed Selene had not attended to me also. It was no big deal though. I walked through the pack, hearing the distant sounds of music and chatter. The party was in full swing. The parking area was packed with cars. Was the whole Eastern Pack here? After reaching the boundary, I made a U-turn back to the pack house when I felt a force, an energy, the same one I felt during my exercise weeks ago. It was so strong that it pulled me in, urging me to follow. I turned around, scanning the sky, but there was nothing there. I had no wolf to help me make sense of it, so I kept walking. “I insisted that this dinner must be held because I wanted to witness the loving moment of you and your mate. Why aren't you there with him?” A deep voice questioned. The wind picked up, throwing sand into the air. I shielded my face with my arm, squinting into the storm. Who was this? Seconds later, everywhere became normal. I pulled out my arm and looked up, Then I saw the figure who I had suspected initially. What was he doing here? Was he part of the guests or the selected pack members? “It’s none of your business,” I yelled. Even if I was hurting from Sylvester, playing a game with him was not something I wanted to do. "I could make you go to the party right now, you know," he said, his tone smooth and confident. "But let's do this the easy way. Why aren't you there?" My stomach grumbled at his numerous questions, it was sickening. Moreover, I do not believe his words, all he was doing was to impress me. “I am not interested.” I blurted before leaving. This time, I didn't wait for him to say any more words. I had barely gotten to the room when one of the guards came to me. “Alpha insists that you show up at the party immediately. He wants you in your best outfit and in less than ten minutes.” Was it related to the strange man I had just met, or had he finally realized his mistakes? Perhaps, all the Alphas came with their Luna, and he finally sees the need for me to be there. I had no time to wonder. I quickly got dressed, pulling on a red gown, curling my hair into soft waves, and adding light makeup, just enough to make it look like I tried. The crowd at the party was just as large as I had imagined. I was confused about which direction to follow. While I could see the Alpha’s section, I didn't dare to walk through the centre of the crowd, alone. My eyes met again with that of the man from outside. I quickly averted it, wishing I had seen someone else and I sighted Mira walking up to me. "Alpha Sylvester asked me to bring you to the table," she whispered. I found it odd that Sylvester had asked her to do this, but at least I wouldn't have to go alone. “Let’s use the restroom, so I can adjust your hair. It's messy at the back.” She said again. I didn't know why Mira was trying so hard to get on my good side. I have come to accept she isn't a bad person. But I can never be friends with her, not with the saga surrounding it. We got to the restroom. All along, Mira had a glass of wine in her hand. She made me stand in front of the mirror as I waited for the adjustment. Suddenly, I heard both a crash and a moan from her. I turned sharply, ready to lend her my hand when she began wailing instead. Really? She had just hurt herself and emptied the drink on herself. She obtained cuts from the glass. “Do you think I am that nice? Are you gullible?” She said in a low tone, smirking. Soon, people rushed in, including Sylvester. The moan from Mira must have alarmed them. It was loud enough anyway. “What happened?” Sylvester screamed. I barely see him this worried unless it was a pack issue. And why was he screaming at me? I didn't do it. I was about to narrate what happened when Mira did that before me. “I wanted to bring her in as you instructed. She insisted she needed to use the bathroom first, which I agreed to. On getting here, she pushed me, spilled my drink on me, and threw the glass at me.” Mira sobbed while she lied. Her story was a lie, but Sylvester didn't even give me a chance to speak. His face twisted with rage. "How dare you, Nora. It's not her fault that she's my fated. Have you really sunk this low?" He raised his hands to give me a slap when someone held him. When I looked up, it was him again. The person holding Sylvester was him. Why was he following me everywhere?
