***** Lucas kept up the cool façade right until the end of his shift. After saying goodbye to his colleagues, he grabbed his car keys and hurried out, still in his uniform. His hasty exit garnered lots of comments along the lines of “Where’s the fire?” and “He must be on a promise,” but he didn’t care. He’d have to explain his actions the following day, but he’d deal with that then. Right now, he needed to get to Greg’s place and let spill the words that had been building up in his mind ever since he’d laid eyes on him again. If he didn’t get it all off his chest soon, he’d explode. Driving a little faster than the legal speed limit, but not so much as to be dangerous or draw attention, Lucas relied on memory alone to get him to the house.
