“This is none of your business, Pender.” Was it a trick of her ears or did Officer Pipes suddenly sound a little bit scared? “Ain’t none of yours either, Timmy,” Sam drawled. He stopped about a yard away, looking completely at ease, as if he were passing the time of day with a friend. He kept his hands thrust into his pockets. Officer Pipes looked anything but relaxed. “You’re county. This here’s city police jurisdiction. Shouldn’t you be out writin’ speedin’ tickets somewheres?” Officer Pipes just stood there for a moment.
