Things were tense in the city streets, like right before a storm. Victor Pierce played defense, but Aidan Pierce was brave and took back family history piece by piece. Victor knew the only thing that would make things better was to hurt someone and not feel bad about it. Aidan's leaks and the friends who used to be close to him betraying him without saying anything made him very angry. Vic stood in front of the big windows in his flat in the middle of the city. For many years, this had been his play area. His face looked cold. He was determined that his nephew would not be able to destroy the country he had worked so hard to build. He was still in charge for tonight, and he would show Aidan and anyone else who dared to back him that. Vargas, who was in charge of security, was quietly waiting for orders at the front door. He looked at him. "It's time to stop Aidan's rebellion," Victor said in a calm but angry tone. "I want to intimidate his allies and target his assets." No one can blame me, and everybody has to pay attention to me. The happy look in Vargas's eyes made him smile and nod. "We've already started." They're keeping an eye on the new homes Aidan bought. We're ready to send out a crew to make things harder. Victor replied, "Good," and a strange smile appeared on his face. Also, let them know that this isn't just a business problem. It seems close. After a few days, Samuel Bishop called him. Bishop was a real estate mogul who had just joined Aidan's cause. Bishop was sure of himself most of the time, but his speech sounded shaky. Bishop couldn't help but say, "They hit my offices, Aidan." In the middle of the night, men wearing masks showed up. They told me something and then made a mess of the place. It was said that they wouldn't be as nice next time if I didn't drop out. I want you to do well, but they said that. Aidan squeezed his hand together. It was an attack on him and everyone who tried to help him. "Relax, Samuel. Victor wants to scare us, but if we all work together, we can beat him. Bishop seemed to be giving it some thought. "I hope you're right, Aidan. Vic, on the other hand, will keep going until we're all dead. Aidan felt tense after the call. He knew he had to protect his friends so they could build a strong network that could attack Victor's country. But because Victor was always fighting, it was harder to keep the people who had joined him safe. Claire had been paying attention and Aidan told her, "We need a counter-move." "Victor will eliminate us one by one if we continue to allow him to strike us without taking any action." Claire gave a strong head nod. "I agree. But first, let's take another look at your safety. If Victor can get to you, no one needs you. Aidan didn't like the idea of having to hide behind a lot of defenses, but he couldn't ignore the danger. Victor did everything he could to get Aidan, but he was going to show up soon enough. There was an attack after two nights. Claire, Aidan's close friends, and others were at one of his safehouses going over plans and deciding what he should do next. They were very careful about where they put it so Victor wouldn't see it. Vick was always ahead, though. Aidan heard a faint sound after midnight that sounded like an engine far away. Aidan's feelings had grown stronger after years of being on edge. No one in the room seemed to notice. When a black SUV pulled up to the building, he got up and looked out the window. "Come on, everybody!" Aidan yelled and got on his knees as shots were fired outside. Shots went through the room and broke glass. Because it was so loud, Aidan and his friends were running like crazy to get inside. But glass was flying everywhere. He decided to put everyone else's safety ahead of his own arm pain. When one of their friends got hurt, Claire pulled them behind a homemade wall and put them next to him. "This isn't just a way to scare you," Aidan said in a low voice. His heart was beating fast. "Victor desires my death." They fired for what seemed like a long time before finally leaving, leaving a path of destruction behind them. Aidan saw his scared but still alive friends in the room. Aidan knew that even though they were lucky this time, things might not go so well next time. He looked down at his shirt because a small cut on his arm was letting blood seep through. And even though it wasn't scary, it made him think of how almost lost everything. Claire replied, "We can't stay here," and then she told another friend to get up. "Victor is aware of our location and will not give up until you are no longer involved." Aidan fixed his gaze and gave a firm nod. That Victor was willing to go this far only showed what he already knew: this problem could not be fixed. He knew this war would cost something from the start. Aidan was scared when someone tried to kill him, but it made him stronger. He and Claire went over his security plan again in the morning and made any weak places stronger. She knew he meant business when he told her, "We need to be ready for anything." Vic knows everything we do, so we keep telling ourselves that. Because of this, there will be more encrypted communication, more travel, and fewer talks. He won't be able to surprise me again. Claire agreed and jotted down some notes. "To make things safer, we'll be switching sites all the time, and I'll get in touch with some trustworthy people." We shouldn't get too close to someone until we know they will treat us well. Aidan looked around the room and saw things he had seen before. He chose to always be careful and pay close attention because he knew that one mistake could kill him. But he was ready for it. Vic had gone too far, and Aidan was more determined than ever to see this war through to the end.
