“Coop sounded like she wants this done,” Ribs said.
“We knew that going in,” I said. “Remember, she called when we were on our way back from Bentwater. Rusty is putting pressure on her.
“By the way, did you ever hear back from the hotel in Atlanta?”
“Not yet,” Ribs said. “I expect to today. They said they’d call. I do have a question, though. Hemphill said he was sick.”
“Yeah, he said he got sick after dinner.”
“Right, but when you look through his receipts, there is a taxi receipt but no rental-car receipt.”
“So he took a taxi instead of getting a rental, so what?”
“‘So what’? Look at his records—he always takes a rental. And if we go on that assumption, supported by receipts, why did he take a taxi this time?”
