"Grandpa, I was thinking of something I want to talk to you about." Sabina started, hiding her trembling cold hands under the table. She smiled shyly at him, this was the first time she was going to ask a serious favor from him. Although everyone in the table always knew she had gained everything she needed from Señior Antonio without even lifting a finger. The rich old man has always thought ahead of everything for her so she didn't have to ask. Hearing her ask a favor from the man that already provided everything for her has made everyone think she was a leech, sucking all the wealth of their family.
These conversation made Kale uneasy, he has known Sabina to be very scheming and now he fears that their Grandpa will be fooled again by her. All the family members straightened up and waited for what Sabina wanted to discuss with Señior Antonio.
The old man had a happy and cheerful smile while he waited for her to speak. He always favored Sabina because he saw how sweet and caring she is as a granddaughter. She always made time for him and she always exerted efforts to make him laugh and make sure he was healthy. Sabina never asked for anything, she never demanded anything so when she opened up a topic about something she wanted, the old man was delighted.
"I—umm..." Sabina looked around the table and only to be met by cold and unhappy faces. She became more nervous and unsure. She thought maybe it wasn't a good idea. "Nevermind, Grandpa. I think it wasn't really a good idea." She immediately shrugged off the things she wanted to say.
Because of this, Señior Antonio became disappointed and his face showed he was unhappy with Sabina's decision. "Sabina." He called her with all seriousness. "Tell me and let me decide if it's not a good idea."
Sensing that her Grandpa was offended by her indecisiveness, she quickly replied with a nod and with a little courage she said, "I was thinking if maybe I could move out and rent a place near my university, Grandpa. I wanted to focus more on my studies and the two hour drive every morning and night exhausts me and I find it hard to study when I feel drained, I can get a part time job to support myself, Grandpa. You don't have to worry about me." She tried her best to convince him that she planned her decision well and thought it through.
She remembered how much her Grandpa always reminded her to always be careful and thoughtful of her decisions. She always treasured that advice from him and this time she wanted to show him that she did not forget that.
"Hmm." Señior Antonio straightened up.
It made her nervous and the family remained quiet.
"Why do you think that was a bad idea?" Señior Antonio asked after thinking about what she said.
Sabina bowed her head, ashamed of the brave and bold suggestions she made. "I think it's a bad idea because I won't be able to take care of you every night. You're the only reason why I wanted to come home early after school..if I stayed far then.." Sabina felt guilty just by thinking about leaving. She loved the old man like a real grandfather. He was her savior and her only friend in this family.
Señior Antonio was touched by her unselfish reasons. "It wasn't a bad idea, Sabby." The old man chuckled and reached out his hand. Sabina immediately held his hand before he could exert too much energy and tire himself.
"I think I'll be sad to be too far from you, Grandpa. That's why I think it's a bad idea. I don't like it anymore." Sabina decided to squash the suggestion away for good, she decided it was better to endure the tired nights so she could take care of him every night.
Lucille could only snort, she believed Sabina was acting like a good caring granddaughter again in the family to gain her father's favor again.
Señior Antonio heard her mockery but ignored her rude and bitter daughter, he focused on what Sabina wanted.
"Will you be coming home every weekend?" He asked Sabina, feeling delighted again at the idea he had in mind.
Sabina's smile always cheered him on. "Yes, Grandpa. Every weekend and every time I miss you, you'll be constantly seeing this face because I actually have a gift for you." She immediately opened her bag and took out the brand new 11 inch ipad. She stood up and put the screen on call. She answered the call through her phone and now they see each other on the screen of their phones.
"Nurse Beth and I have already talked, we are going to say our goodnight to each other every night. It was like I was never away, Grandpa." Sabina endearingly smiled.
Señior Antonio was so happy with Sabina's gift, but he was more happy that the young woman he brought home has truly been an angel. He felt so loved and so cherished because of her. She even thought of him first before making a huge decision for herself. Satisfied that he could still see and talk to her all the time, he finally decided to say his plans for her. "Buy Sabina her own car and apartment, make sure it's near her university so she doesn't have to drive that far." He turned to his grandson,Kale.
Sabina was shocked by this.
Lucille snorted again, hearing this made the old man angry. "Watch your attitude, Lucille."
Lucille stiffened and bowed her head in silence. Grandpa just scolded her in front of everybody! He never does that! She felt humiliated for the rest of the time she sat in front of everyone.
"Yes, Grandpa." Kale just replied without a hint of emotion.
"Grandpa, you don't need to do that. I was planning to get myself a job and start supporting myself." Sabina bent her head down and tried to whisper her contradiction. This wasn't the plan she had in mind. She wasn't expecting her Grandpa would be too generous to her request.
"I can't sleep at night knowing you're working for your education and rent at the same time, Sabby. Do you want me to fall sick?" Grandpa raised his grey colored eyebrows.
"No, Grandpa." She answered, feeling guilty already.
Señior Antonio knew Sabina could not refuse her when he wanted something. She genuinely cared for his health and sleep. Unlike his daughter and daughter-in-law, who only put up a show to care but was never there to ask about his medications.
"Here." Señior Antonio pulled out his black shiny card and gave it to Sabina. "Buy everything you need with this card. It has no limits. Keep it, I have no need for it anyway."
The whole Caddel family silently buried their anger and jealousy, their Grandfather just gave her a Black Royalty card! There are only a few people that have that kind of card, only the richest people in the world and now an ordinary orphan girl like Sabby has one!
'What's so special about this woman!?' Lucille glared silently at Sabina who took the card without hesitation. This made Kale smirk, he felt annoyed with this.
Grandpa was fooled again. Right in front of us!
'SABINA HAYES CADDEL! I'll make sure to make you pay for this!'
