12. More Than Just One

The circular flagstone seating area was encompassed on the northwestern side by two raised flowerbed walls that were made of stone. The flowerbeds never really contained any flowers over the years. Instead, in order to save water as well as money, it was xeriscaped with over a dozen barrel cacti and several aloe vera plants and some Spanish lavender that grew two to three feet tall. The sweet scent of lavender encapsulated anyone seated there especially during the winter months in Glendale, Arizona, which were more like a warm Spring. In the middle of the seating area was a circular travertine table with a fire pit. The fire pit had a roaring fire made from many cut limbs of mesquite wood from the nearby three humongous Chilean mesquite trees that lined the western fence of the property. T
