I placed my drink on top of the counter and walked into the door. As I opened it, I was shocked by my mother’s presence. She never said anything that she will come by.
“Hi, mom. What are you doing here?” I ask her.
“I’ve been calling your phone but you’re not answering.”
“Oh. I must’ve switched it to silent. I barely use my phone, mom.” I said.
She nods, “Anyways, I have something to tell you.” She steps aside, revealing a boy behind her. I wasn’t looking at my mom anymore but I was drowning looking at him. He was wearing baggy casual clothes. I can tell that he has a petite body. He’s small.
“Chance, this is Bailey. He is the one that I was talking about. He’s new in this city and I hope that you take care of him. Please look for him, okay sweetheart? You know, I can’t trust your brother with this.” My mom said, I still didn’t look at my mom but I heard her. I was still looking at Bailey while he was staring at the floor. Our eyes met but he pulled away immediately.
“Bailey, honey, this is my son. He’s Chance and he had a twin brother named Cain. You will stay with them since there’s no room available for you, okay, babe?” my mom turned his attention to little Bailey. He nodded and smiled, “Everything is ready inside, okay? And if you have a problem, just text me. All you have to do is just focus on your study and take good care of yourself.”
Bailey smiled and thanked her. Since everything is offset, my mom decided to leave because she had to run some errands. She trusts me with Bailey and I don’t have any problem with it. She kissed my cheeks goodbye and faced Bailey.
“I’m leaving you with Chance now. If anything bad happens, just text me, okay sweetheart?” my mom repeated. Bailey just nodded his head again as my mom gave him a tight hug. She gave us one final look and then she left.
Now it was only the both of us. It’s kind of awkward but I can do this. Bailey just watched her walk away and I broke the ice between us.
“Let’s go inside,” I said and he followed behind me.
We both entered the room and I closed the door behind me. He scanned the room with his eyes and turned his back to me.
“I’m Bailey,”
I chuckled, “I’m Chance. My mom told me about you last night. I didn’t know that you enrolled this late, why so?”
“My mom and I just moved here and no school was accepting me anymore because I’m late but thankfully, they did when I tried here.” He explained. I just gave him a slight nod. I remembered that I haven’t got my breakfast and I asked him if he wanted something to eat. He’s still full but I still ask him if he wants coffee. He agreed.
He sat down on the kitchen stool as I grabbed his coffee and my granola bar. I placed the cup of coffee in front of him as I sat down beside him. We had small talk and I’m glad that he’s open to me and he’s not shy at all. He likes science and math as well and I’m so glad about it. Finally, I have a buddy to study with late at night. We clicked the vibe which I’m glad for because it’s not awkward and I made friends which I don’t do often, actually.
We talked about our likes and dislikes and we both have the same taste. All of his dislikes were my twin brother’s likes. I even talked to him about the curfew and the rules in this room. Well, there are really no rules but for my brother, it has. He goes to bed at ten in the evening, which means, you can’t disturb him. You should be quiet especially if you’re getting something in the kitchen because he wakes up really early. Sometimes, my brother doesn’t sleep here and he stays over with his best friend which is on the upper floor, I presume.
Bailey was sipping his coffee when the door suddenly opened. My twin brother rushed inside without taking a glance at us and went to his study table.
“Damn it. I forgot my laptop,” he hissed. He noticed that I wasn’t alone so stopped his tracks. He looked at me first and averted his gaze to Bailey. He looks at him from head to toe and I can sense that Bailey is getting uncomfortable from my twin brother’s dagger look.
“Uhm, this is Bailey. He is our new roommate and Bailey, this is my twin brother. Cain.” I said.
“H-hi,”
