A Monster

Lisa's POV I drifted in and out of sleep all day, fighting to stay awake, but exhaustion was taking a toll on me. The cell was dimly lit, and through the small window, which was far too high for me to reach, I could tell night had fallen once more. The moon’s light spilled into the cramped room, casting eerie shadows on the walls. My eyes settled again on my father's decaying body, lying lifeless in the corner. I swallowed back the pain that choked me, the stench from his body filling every inch of the cell. His skin had grown pale, sickly, and his smell was suffocating, but I had long since stopped covering my nose. I was too used to it now. My fingers absently rubbed the choker clamped around my neck as I wished I could communicate with my wolf. I missed her so much, and the feeling of not being able to feel her or communicate with her was killing me. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching the cell. I could tell they were more than one person, judging by the weight and rhythm of the steps. My ears pricked, and my heart pounded as I wondered why there were so many. The heavy cell door creaked open, and two guards walked in, but right behind them was my nightmare, Alpha Nathan. He was dressed in his newly donned Alpha robes, a golden crown, the same one our former Alpha, his uncle, had once worn. The guards gave way for him, and he walked and stood before my father. His expression was cold, a twisted look of satisfaction in his eyes as he looked down at my father's corpse. Without hesitation, he spat on my father’s body, a sneer curling on his lips. “You bastard,” he spat, his voice dripping with hatred. “Even death is too good for you. Your sins are beyond redemption.” Alpha Nathan sneered anger flashing in his eyes as he glared at the decaying body of my father. I could see so much anger in his eyes for my father’s death; this man would do anything to bring my father back to life just to punish him the way he had intended to. Without sparing me a glance since he walked into the cell, he turned toward the guards. “Throw him away,” he ordered his guards, and my eyes widened as I abruptly stood up from the floor. “No! No! Please,” I begged, trying to reach him, but the guards blocked me. “Please, let him at least be buried,” I pleaded desperately. The thought of my father not being able to be laid to rest, the thought of his body being eaten by vultures, tore my heart into pieces. Alpha Nathan, whose back was still turned to me, didn’t look around as he spoke. “Believe me, if there was a worse way than this, I would have done it!” he grunted, his tone filled with anger. Rage flared inside me, and I lost my temper. “You beast!” I spat with pain and anger. “You are not human! You are a beast, a monster!” I yelled in pain while my body shook from anger. Slowly, Alpha Nathan turned and, for the first time, held my gaze. His green, alluring eyes were darker and looked scary. “What did you just call me?” he asked with a challenging tone, probably thinking I wouldn’t be able to say it again. But he was wrong. At that moment, I wasn’t afraid of him or death. What was the point of being alive and living such a miserable life? “I called you a beast, Alpha Nathan. Do your best, you monster. You’ve already taken everything from me.” I noticed his eyes became darker, but I wasn’t scared. The worst he could do was kill me, and I was so ready for it. For a moment, silence filled the cell, broken only by the heavy breathing of the guards and the faint rustle of Nathan’s robe as he moved closer. He lifted a hand, a signal for the guards to leave, and they obeyed, casting pitying looks at me as they exited. The door closed behind them, and for a moment, my heart spiked with fear. Alpha Nathan’s expression hardened as he approached me, a cruel smile tugging at his lips. “You think I’m a monster, Lisa?” His voice was low and mocking. “Then let me show you just how much of a beast I can be.” My pulse hammered, but I held my ground, refusing to let him see my fear. “Do your worst, monster,” I spat. “I have nothing left to lose.” He chuckled, a cold, empty sound that echoed in the cell. “Nothing left to lose, you say? I think there’s still more I can take from you.” His hand suddenly gripped my chin roughly, forcing me to look up at him. “Let’s test that theory, shall we? Strip,” he ordered, his voice laced with command. “I’m going to take you right here, in the presence of your father’s decaying body.”
