Chapter II

Her phone was ringing. The curtains were shut, so she could not tell what time it was. She answered the phone. It was her friend Louis. "We're late for school, you did not answer your phone I called ten times!"  "I am sorry I overslept. I stayed up late doing my physics project" she said. "It is alright. Get ready, I am in front of your house. Be fast"  Asya rarely lied to her best friend. Lately she has been getting a lot of nightmares with the same people over and over again. She felt some sort of connection with them and started getting curious about the people. It is for sure people she had never seen before or read about. She took her phone and saw that it was 7:51 am. She got ready and went with Louis. Asya recently moved to New York with her dad James. James was a busy man so she did not get much attention. Her appearance was strange since she had bigger eyes and wider ears and people would make fun of her. To make herself feel more secure, she would often wear baggy clothes so people could not make fun of her body too. Slowly, she adapted to people feeling different towards her. The neighborhood kids did not want to hang out with her, so she was usually left alone with much free time. In her free time, she decided to learn how to play the violin. For a short time, she got really good with it, she started playing it in the school band, but the people in the band did not like her and she had to leave. In her free time, she would play the violin or hang out with Louis or her dad. Even though her main occupation was playing the violin, she was very good at drawing. She took part of many drawing contests and loved drawing. She was not very social since her childhood left her with social anxiety from all the people making fun of her. Her father was trying his best to make her feel secure and loved. Sometimes he asked her to play the violin in front of him. They had movie nights every weekend. Sometimes they went out of New York to have picnics.  Her only true friend out of school was Louis. Louis was very supportive. He visited her every day, helped her with practice. He would make her surprises and sometimes they would go to the cinema. After school, he would take her to an internet cafe to play video games or sometimes the library since she loved reading. He took good care of her and made her feel loved and cared for. He was her closest friend and she put all her trust in him. In school, she did not really hang out with anyone except Louis and two other girls. People would often call her names and make fun of her. The two other similar girls that sometimes hung out with her were Bethany and Chloe. She played with them in the band until she was kicked out. They were not as close, but they were always there for each other. When they got to the school, both hurried separate ways, Asya to the history class room and Louis to the math class room. The school was not decorated. The walls were white with grey and the class rooms were light pink with beige. Both of them had different classes except for physics. Asya’s head teacher was the English teacher, an old racist man who hated Asya. Louis’s head teacher was the PE teacher, a short slim man who gave everyone nightmares. His look made everyone scared. The second Louis hears the whistle, his heart skips a beat. After the second class, they have a twenty-minute lunch break. Usually, they buy food from the school cafeteria. Louis often gets pizza or something similar with cheese and Asya gets sea food. This time, Louis could not find Asya in the cafeteria. He texted her, but after no reply, he went to search for her. She was not outside nor in the halls. As he was looking through the class rooms, he found her sitting on a toilet in the gender-neutral bathroom due to the poor school. When she heard him calling out her name she jumped. “Asya, are you there?” he asked. “Yeah, just give me a minute”. She said as she picked up the picture of her mother, wet, filled with her tears. Her hand was shaking and her head was aching. She wiped the tears of her face and got up. She was relieved to see Louis and went straight to hug him. “Is everything okay? You have been acting strange these past few days” he asked “My dreams are getting scarier. Today I dreamt how a witch wants to kill me. They feel really real Louis” she said with watery eyes. “Do not worry. They are just dreams. Probably caused of stress. Let us take a break and go somewhere peaceful” Slowly, they walked to the car. Asya got in the front passenger seat next to Louis while he was in the driving seat. The whole drive they were quiet until Asya realized they’re going the wrong way. “We are going the wrong direction”. “We are not, I wanted to see what is on this side. I got bored of going to the same places”. They got near a forest. Louis parked the car and together they went in the forest. It was peaceful. The birds were singing a short song. To the side of the path were wild strawberries. As Louis was picking up some strawberries, a small voice appeared in Asya’s head. She could not quite understand the words because it was very quiet. She started walking deeper and deeper. The voice got louder and louder and then she was something. An almost transparent line. As she reached out with her hand, Louis ran behind her. “There are people following us. They shot at me. Run!” shouted Louis when he saw her. The voice disappeared and her mind quickly focused on the situation. They started running for their life. Behind them was a swarm of people shooting at them. Asya was surprised because they did not look like normal people. There was something different about their appearance. She was wondering why Louis said just people. They ran and ran until they reached a dead end. The weird looking people got to them and said something in a language they did not understand. All of them pointed their guns at them. Even their guns looked different. Right before they pull the trigger, someone from behind slashes them with a sword. Asya and Louis watched the man kill them one by one. The next second they heard him telling them “Come with me. More are coming!” And they ran with the strange man to another dead end. “Give it a second” he said while holding a small sculpture in his hand. He brought it high and a tunnel appeared before them.
