"Nothing. just wanted to check on you."
Amelia loved watching Miranda argue with Carson every day so she could enjoy the drama.
But Miranda didn't want to see her anymore. "Alright. If there's nothing else, you can go home."
Amelia, known for her endless gossiping, was certainly reluctant to leave. She pouted and grumbled, "What are you so busy with? If you do all the work, what will your husband do when he gets back?"
Miranda, irritated, rolled her eyes at Amelia and retorted, "I'll have Carson talk to Colonel Brooks and see if Colonel Brooks is treating you so badly that you have such a problem with doing your chores. And I'll ask Carson to give Colonel Brooks fewer assignments if necessary."
"Miranda, why are you being so ungrateful!?" Amelia snapped, pointing to Miranda's nose, and cursed, "I just feel sorry for you for doing so much laundry in this freezing weather."
"I feel sorry for you too!" Miranda calmly replied, using Amelia's words against her. "So isn't it a good thing if I ask Carson to give your husband less work so that he would spend more time with you?"
"Of course not! A man should concentrate on his career, and he should have more tasks and contributions to have a promising future. What do you want by depriving him of missions?"
Miranda sneered. "Well, so you know that men have to focus on their careers. So your husband has to be occupied but mine doesn't? Do you mean my husband doesn't do anything on his allowance?"
Amelia is completely unable to retort. As Miranda kept mentioning Amelia’s husband, Amelia felt increasingly infuriated.
Lashing out, Amelia lunged at Miranda, revealing her yellowed teeth.
"You fat pig! I will kill you before you speak ill of my husband before General Neils to ruin his future!"
Seeing Amelia coming at her, Amelia didn't even bother to dodge.
Witnessing Amelia charging towards her, Miranda made no attempt to evade.
Instead, she seized Amelia by the hair as if gripping a fledgling bird, lifting her up and pressing her face into the icy water in the yard.
Miranda showed a sarcastic grin.
"Well, too weak!"
"Ah!"
Amelia shrieked and it immediately captured the attention of neighbors, compelling them to rush to Miranda's yard and pull Amelia away from Miranda.
Rescued, Amelia, with drenched hair, wailed inconsolably, hysterically accusing Miranda.
"Miranda, you're bullying me just because Carson has a higher rank! Look, this isn't over! Guys, you all know that Miranda is a disaster in our apartments! I think we better send her back to Aures! What do you say?"
Amelia's astute statement transformed their conflict into a communal issue, positioning Miranda against everyone else.
"Fine!" Miranda nodded, unconcerned.
So what if they complained to Carson and sent her back home? Why should she care, especially considering that she and Carson were on the verge of divorce?
Surprisingly, Miranda did not defend herself, but her neighbor, an elderly lady named Kate Young, did.
"Amelia, why couldn't you get rid of your bad mouth? You said Miranda was a disaster here. Aren't you, too? You always instructed her to do wicked things, didn't you?"
As soon as Kate uttered those words, the way the people around her looked at Amelia became strange.
After looking back, they suddenly realized that Amelia brought about many of the stupid things Miranda did.
These two, one was a scoundrel and the other a dupe, colluded together—it was horrifying!
With a discussion, a fresh, pleasant woman's voice rose from the crowd.
"I think people like Amelia and Miranda should get the hell out of our military family apartments!"
The woman speaking was Evie James, a teacher, who was staying at home because school was on holiday.
As a teacher, Evie had a certain appeal, so the majority immediately echoed her words in favor of having Amelia and Miranda thrown out.
Amelia had not anticipated such an uncontrollable turn and found herself at a loss for words. With her face buried in tears, she hastily fled from the scene.
The others then dispersed for there was no more fun to watch.
The person most surprised was Miranda, who didn't realize that someone would stand up for her since the initial Miranda was so lame.
Miranda stopped Kate, who was strolling at the back.
"Kate, thank you for speaking for me."
Kate gave Miranda an impatient look and stated, "No need. I'm doing this as a courtesy to General Neils. It's excellent you can see Amelia's true colors. Don't listen to her provocations anymore."
With that, Kate glared at Miranda again, turned, and walked wobbly out of the yard.
Hearing Kate's words, Miranda couldn't help but smile bitterly, thinking that Kate really had a soft heart. Although Kate seemed irritable, everything she said was considerate to Miranda.
Unfortunately, the original Miranda couldn't tell the difference between good and evil and had utterly lost the wonderful man Kate mentioned.
After Kate departed, Miranda was ready to go back to her own business.
But suddenly, a noise was heard outside.
"Come on! Get him in the house first! He's frozen!"
"He's still bleeding from his thigh. He'll die if it continues!"
