Chapter EighteenDaniel awoke to a din of very different sounds. People arguing. Voices raised, scathing, and angry. He swung his legs out of bed and stood up, rubbing his eyes and picked up his alarm clock. Twenty minutes past three, in the morning! He couldn't believe it; his eyes burned full of grit and his head banged. He padded over to the fireplace, squatted down on his haunches, and listened. The voices sounded very distinct. Martha and Müller, arguing bitterly in their native language. Daniel remembered Dad had left earlier for Munich, to meet with the people at the gallery.
