Chapter SeventeenDaniel gently pressed the door closed, leaned back against the great oak panels and tried to calm himself down. The fear, however, held sway over every knotted fibre. Keeping low, moving from rock to rock, tree to tree, he'd made his way back to the house, hopeful that Grüber wouldn't see him. It took all of his self-control not to break into a full run, but he believed, standing here in the shadowy hallway, safe and warm, he'd succeeded.
