Chapter ThirteenAgain, that night, no noises came from below. Daniel lay in his bed waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Perhaps the servants, most especially Müller, had freed the wolf to stop Daniel from snooping further. But why, what were they concerned about? Perhaps the visit from the police had frightened them. Part of him didn't want to believe it; to be close to a wolf, a real wild animal, not one locked up in a zoo, that was something to savour. He tossed and turned before eventually slipping into an undisturbed night's sleep. As he got dressed the following morning, he toyed with the idea that he had imagined it, those noises, but he dismissed the idea immediately.
