The man curled his lip and showed the tip of his tongue. He’s watching one of the tv screens, particularly the one that shows Athena. He’s disgusted with her. A woman who is selfish and betrayed her best friend. How can a woman like her dare to tell him what to do? She is just a part of his pawn. His queen doesn’t deserve someone like her.
He looks at the screen that shows Cytherea and Ares. His expressions hardened when he saw Cytherea’s angry face while wiping her tears. He placed his right hand on top of the mouse and hovered it to the screen where Cytherea is. He did several clicks on the screen which made all the tv screen shows Cytherea’s face only. He felt a pang in his heart. His queen is crying. He wanted to hug her and tell her that she doesn’t deserve that guy. That guy doesn’t even merit her tears.
“Don’t worry, My Love, just wait a little bit longer. Once we are finally together, you will not cry anymore.”
He saw Cytherea wiped her face again before leaving the room. He did several clicks again and every screen went back to normal. He stood up and took his phone. He hurriedly left the secret room. He’s going to see Cytherea, not because Athena suggested it. He has some plans that need to be executed.
He took a black leather jacket, a white shirt, and tattered jeans from his closet. He immediately changes his clothes and looks at his reflection in the full-body mirror. If he sees Cytherea today, it will be the new him. Gone is the helpless guy whom she helped before. He reaches for the comb on the dresser. He neatly combed his shoulder-length brown hair and tied it in a messy bun. He looks at his reflection one more time in the mirror. When he was finally satisfied, he took his socks and black sneakers to wear.
He was about to leave his room when he heard a knock on the door. He opened it and found his butler standing outside the door. He is wearing his usual butler uniform.
“What is it, Nim?” he asked.
The butler bowed first before he answered, “The trackers have been installed, Sir.” The butler handed him another phone. “The application is also installed on this phone. I made it look like it was just a brick game. Once you open the application, just pressed four number fives so that it will activate the tracker. You will be able to see her location,” the butler properly explained. No emotions on his face were seen.
A satisfying grin breaks his face. His butler is the most reliable person he knows, not to mention the most trusted one too. He has been working for his family since he was a kid. He remained unmarried and still took care of him even after his parents died. For him, his butler is not just a servant but a family.
“Thanks, Nim. Please prepare my car. I’m going out.” He accepted the phone and explored the app. He smiled once again and gave Nim a thumbs up. He was satisfied with the outcome of the app. He can clearly see where his queen is going. “Did you send me the code for this app?”
“Yes, Sir, I did. You should be able to see it in your email. You can also install it on your personal phone.”
“Okay, great!” he answered while still looking at the phone.
“Is there anything else before I prepare your car, Sir?”
He shook his head. “Nope, I’m all set. You can go.”
Nim bowed his head once again before taking his leave. The red dot indicates Cytherea is still moving towards the north. After a few minutes, the red dot stops at Jackson Square. He immediately locked the phone and went to the garage where Nim is waiting beside the black Mercedes-Benz car. Nim bowed his head before opening the door for him.
“I’ll be with you shortly, Sir,” he announced. Nim made sure that he’s already settled inside the car before closing the door.
Ever since that incident happened, Nim has always accompanied him from afar to make sure it will never happen to him again. Nim is superb when it comes to martial arts and Nim can definitely protect him from people who tried to hurt him physically. However, he disliked the idea of someone following him, even if he’s just watching him from afar. So, he decided to enroll himself in the MMA class so he could defend himself. However, when he started to follow Cytherea, he decided that it’s better to have Nim around.
He starts the car engine and drives to Jackson Square. It wasn’t a long drive, but it took a while before he arrived at the place because of traffic. He started to get annoyed. He couldn’t park the car beside the road, so he had to go to a parking center. Good thing that the parking center near Jackson Square has an available space.
He reached for the other phone in his pocket and saw that the red dot is still in the same place. It means that Cytherea is still sitting on one of the benches in Jackson Square. He put the phone in his pocket and got out of his car. He made sure that his car was locked.
He jogged towards the place. It didn’t even take him a while to find Cytherea because he instantly saw Cytherea sitting on the edge of the fountain when he entered the place. He felt like the time slowly stopped as the wind blew Cytherea's long black curly hair. Her bluish silver eyes look so sad while staring at the water and he knows exactly why.
He wanted to console her, be her crying shoulder, but he knew he couldn't do that. He knew that if he will, it may jeopardize his plans to be with her.
Suddenly, his phone beeped. He took out the phone from his pocket and checked it. It was a message from Nim.
Be ready.
He smiled happily after reading the text message. He saw Cytherea standing up and now, without hesitation, he walks towards her.
Cytherea stood up and raised her two hands to stretch. She got suddenly exhausted because of the argument she had with Ares. She couldn’t believe that he thought of her that way. She shook her head and took a deep breath. Once again, she stretched her arms when suddenly, a man in a black hat and black leather jacket, who looked like he was in a hurry, accidentally bumped into Cytherea.
She loses her balance and closes her eyes tightly, preparing herself to fall. She waited for the hard concrete to touch her body, but it didn’t happen. What she felt was strong arms wrapped around her waist. She slowly opened her eyes and saw a familiar set of green eyes. Her eyebrow furrowed. She’s trying to remember where he saw the man. She tilted her head, and her eyes widened when she realized how close his face to her.
Her face turned red, and she immediately pushed the man away when she regained her balance.
The man smiled. “Are you okay?” he asked. Worry was written all over his face.
"Y-yes, I'm okay. T-thanks," she stammered. She was looking down, unable to maintain eye contact with the man that somehow saved her from falling to the ground.
The man smiled in amusement. "You're welcome. You have to be careful next time."
Cytherea looked at him. The man had a husky voice. He looked so friendly and pleasant. Cytherea couldn't help herself but stare at the man. He couldn't shrug off the idea that the man looked familiar. It was as if she had met him before.
"You looked so familiar. Have we met before?"
Before the man could answer, a familiar voice called her.
"Cy!"
She looked in the direction of the voice and saw Gaus walking towards her.
"Hey, Gaus! How are you?" she asked, smiling at him. She turned to the man, but he's no longer beside her. She tried to look in the other direction, but the man can no longer be seen. "Where is he?"
Gaus was already in front of her when he asked, "Are you looking for someone?"
She turned to him and responded, "Not really. How are you, and why are you here?"
"I'm great! I was just looking at the paintings on the sidewalk. I usually came here to look for potential paintings that I can use for my gallery. How about you?"
"Oh wow! Oh, I was just looking around. Then this fountain caught my attention. There are so many pennies here. Is this some sort of a wishing well, fountain edition?" She playfully asked. She giggled at her own joke.
Gaus chuckled, "Yep, you can say that." Gaus reached for his pocket and handed her the quarter. "Here, you make a wish."
Cytherea laughed. "Sure!" She took the coin and clasped her hands closer to her chest. She then closed her eyes.
She remembered Ares. His smile, his gentle look whenever he looked at her.
She smiled sadly. Sorrow closed up her throat. She knew what exactly to wish. She wished that Ares would no longer feel jealous. She loved him so much. She just wished he would trust her more.
What she didn't know, as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for...
