Three nervous lizards sat in the S.M.M. Peykaap's cockpit, watching the clock count backwards towards zero. While technically they'd be emerging into a part of the galaxy which had been mapped, the borderlands were rife with unmarked asteroids, hostile border patrols, and frequently space pirates.
The AI chimed: 'Sixty seconds.'
Lieutenant Apausha clenched the subspace engine controls. The most dangerous part of hyperspace travel was exiting the wormhole. They had no way of knowing if another ship, an asteroid, or space junk had moved into the path inexpertly plotted via long range sensors.
