CHAPTER EIGHTEEN Dawn breaks with a rustle of leaves and the hurried steps of our scout. I'm awake, heart pounding, as he bursts into camp. Sweat beads on his brow; his chest heaves. "Found them," he pants, eyes wild with a mix of triumph and fear. "The Hills' pack... they've got Jake, too." My blood chills, an icy river in my veins. I glance at Ryan, who's already on his feet, authority etched into every line of his body. He nods once, sharply, and our pack springs into action, a well-oiled machine ready for battle. "Ryan," I start, my voice barely above a whisper, but he's moving, issuing orders like bullets from a g*n. "Later, Lily," he says, not even looking at me. But now is all we have. "Jake's life—would you really risk it?" The question claws its way out, desperate and raw. “
