After the black ships pummeled the shore, the majority of them pulled back. They had left a half dozen craft guarding the mouth of the bay. Too far out to sea for the city’s defenses to reach them yet close enough to strike any counterattack with impunity. Eye’ler watched the sunset. He was a junior member of the guard, who happened to survive the first barrage
