Chapter 2: Hope

2261 Words
That was one of the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had. It felt like someone was watching me every time I closed my eyes. I made my way into the bathroom my brother and I shared, hoping he was still sleeping. The coast is clear, so I go and lock his side before he tries to walk in. I jump in the shower and get ready for the day. It was almost time to get in touch with Ava to make sure she’s safe.                 As soon as I was done, I unlocked Holton’s door and rush back into my bedroom and quickly close the door behind me and then I heard Holton step in to get ready himself. I quickly get dressed into blue jeans and a nice flowy blue tank top to match. I slip my flip flops on then go outside to the barn and head to my loft area. When I got there, I see a letter next to my computer that said:    Hope. I had no idea who it could be from, but my main concern was how it got here in the first place with our protection spell around our home.                 I decided to put the letter out of my mind for now while I tried to contact Ava. I sat on my rug and lit my candles with the snap of my finger. Once that was ready, I closed my eyes and focused on the energy radiating inside me that I share with Ava. Holton and I have tried this at the opposite ends of the farm, but it doesn’t work. I can bring him into the conversation with me if he’s holding my hand, but otherwise I can only communicate with Ava.                 Good morning Ava! This is our first check in for the trip. How is everything going?                 It is so good to hear your voice again Hope! Everything is great for us. We came across some hikers close to the boarders between the covens who were human, but otherwise no problems.                 Why are there humans this far out of the main city? What if they came across the city in your territory? That could be really dangerous.                 Calm down girl. We have protection spells from humans to keep them out. Everything is fine. We’re beyond the protection of our city now. Can you see what I’m seeing?                 Yeah, there’s still a lot of trees.                 Does anything look familiar to give us a clue if we’re close or not?                 Sorry, no.                 Why can’t your mom reverse her spell so you can tell me where you are? Or better yet, she can tell me herself.                 I wish it was that simple. I’ll try and focus on your location so I can see if your close at least. I tried to pull the power from within me and Ava at the same time. I saw our powers in my mind, mine was a dark purple and Ava’s was a dark red. They swirled together in the air and I willed them to show me what direction Ava and her group should go. My purple changed into an N while Ava’s red changed into a W. Head Northwest. That is all the information I can provide that our powers allowed.                 That’s more than enough for me. James and Mark will be happy to know we have a direction to go at least.                 You might still have a couple weeks to go until you find us if my intuition is correct.                 Hopefully it doesn’t take that long, but I have a feeling you know something I don’t.                 It’s complicated. Both Holton and I got a pain in our chest which means danger is coming. Holton thinks it could be a warning for you.                 But you don’t think it’s meant for us.                 No, I don’t. My mind went to the letter that was sitting on my desk next to my computer. Could that be something to do with the feeling?                 What letter?                 Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to project that.                 Who is Jack? My heart stopped when she mentioned his name.                 How do you know about him?                 I think he wrote the letter.                 That’s not possible. He’s been gone for two years.                 Maybe you should read it and find out. I have to get moving anyways. James is getting impatient. Let me know more about the letter during our next conversation. Which will be when?                 I’ll be back in two days, and I will try and gather information to tell you. Once you reach the human city, you can rest at a hotel just inside the city limits. Sleep for the day then head back out tonight. It will come in handy.                 Thanks Hope. Talk to you soon. She gave me a mind wink then our connection broke. I opened my eyes and looked back towards the letter. Do I really want to open it if it’s from Jack? Maybe Ava’s wrong, but how did she come up with that guess? I’ll come back to you later. It’s time to help mom out with the horses.                 Once we got the food out for the horses, we started to muck out the stalls. It took most of the day, and by the time we were over, I was ready for a long nap. I went upstairs to have a shower before dinner, and when I got into the bathroom, the letter was there on my counter waiting for me. I ignored it again and took my shower. When I came out, it wasn’t there anymore. What was happening? I dried off and walked into my room, then I saw the letter on my pillow instead. I have a feeling it’s going to follow me until I open it to read. I got dressed and curled up on my bed and finally opened the letter.                   My dearest Hope,                                 Don’t think I haven’t forgotten about you. I’ve let you be away from me for almost three years, and now it’s time to come back to me. If you think that you’re safe where you are, think again. I’ve known for a while and if you don’t come to me, I will go to you. I don’t think you want to put your family in danger that way, right?                                 Always yours, Jack.                 My heart started pounding like crazy. If he really knew where I was, our protection spell wasn’t working properly. He wasn’t the main reason we snuck out of the city limits to this farm, but for me, it was in my top 5...or rather top 2. My parents brought us here to protect us from Michael I found out, but I was getting away from Jack. My parents knew nothing about what happened, but Holton knew. He used our twin connection to figure it out. I had to stop him from going after Jack because I knew he was going to kill him without even trying.                 I tore the letter up and threw it in my trash can and set it on fire without even doing anything. My rage was enough to set the fire by looking at it. If I ignore him, he will leave me alone. I don’t think he really knows where I am and if he did, he can’t get to me. I don’t know how he got a letter here, but I’m going to make sure he doesn’t have a chance to do that again.                 “Holton, are you in there?” I called out threw the bathroom. He opened his door and rushed to my side when he saw my face.                 “What’s wrong?”                 “He’s back.” I nodded my head to my trash bin. The look in his eyes was murderous. He was getting so angry that his eyes started turning red.                 “What did he say?” He gritted out.                 “He basically said that if I don’t go to him, he will come here.”                 “How does he even know where we are? Whenever we leave our bubble, we look completely different and sound different.”                 “I have no idea, but we need to try and make this bubble stronger. He was able to make a small piece of paper appear, and he shouldn’t have been able to do that in the first place.”                 “Alright, tonight when mom and dad go to sleep, we’ll go out to the field and enforce it.” He pinched the bridge of his nose to calm himself down. I know my brother has always wanted a mate; he’s been dreaming of finding his true mate since he was young. He hasn’t even had a girlfriend. Whenever I see him pinch the bridge of his nose, I know he’s thinking about finding her and what her presence can do for his anger. It would be nice for him to find someone soon. “How’s Ava and group doing?” He changed the subject to either distract himself or me, but whatever the reason, it worked.                 “Good. They were in a safe place to rest for a while before continuing on their way. I was able to use both our power threads to point them in the right direction, but that’s about it so far.”                 “It’s weird how we can come and go whenever we want, but we forget the way as soon as we leave or get back in. I don’t understand how this spell works.”                 “I wish I could beam them here right now. I think Ava’s talents will come in handy to fight of Jack.”                 “Don’t say his name, he might turn up out of nowhere if you say his name too many times.”                 “He’s not like Beetlejuice, that’s not going to happen.”                 “You never know, the devil works in mysterious ways.” I laughed at him and shook my head. “You laugh now, but just you wait. Him being back in your life isn’t going to be in our favor.”                 “Do you think that’s what the pain in our chests meant? A warning about Jack?”                 “That’s a second time, don’t say it again Hope.” He winked. “It’s possible the warning was about…him. There’s no way to be certain. I thought for sure it had something to with Ava and her group.”                 “She assured me they were fine. They haven’t came across anything dangerous yet, and Ava and I both feel like they won’t.”                 “I guess that’s good.” He was rubbing the back of his head now and trying to think about the next steps. “Alright, try and keep yourself busy until midnight, then we’ll head out to start our upgrade.”                 He left my room and went back to his room. He closed his door a little stronger then he probably intended to do, which made my dad call up to him to stop horsing around. I laid down on my bed and sighed. I quickly texted my mom to let her know I was going to have a nap and I’ll be missing dinner. She promised to save me leftovers. My door was still open so I flicked my wrist in its direction and it closed. I made sure to make sure it was a soft close so dad didn’t get mad at me next.                 I’m going to have to give Emily and Lucy a call to make sure if Jack’s really back or not. Since I don’t leave the bubble often, they might have to be my eyes and ears. There’s going to be a time when I have to face him, but from what I’ve seen, it won’t be happening anytime soon. Either Holton or I will get a vision if there’s any type of danger towards us. Apart from the chest pain yesterday, there’s been no sign of anything coming up in the near or far future.                 How did Ava know the letter was from Jack though? That’s something we’ll have to figure out when they get here. Test out our connection to it’s strengths and weaknesses. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, trying to reach out into the universe for any kind of answers. Many things will happen within this year, and not even the major battle with Michael to end his life once and for all. All I’ve seen is that the five of us chosen, will be together by the new year. Although I know we’ll all be together, I have no idea who the other two are. It would make the search easier, but unfortunately my powers aren’t that powerful. The best I know is there’s another male and another female. If I remember correctly from looking into Ava’s mind, the human is Zoey. We just need to find her, and we know the other male is going to be a werewolf. If we could tell Logan about it, he might be able to help us since he’ll become Alpha soon.                 I didn’t realize that I had fallen asleep until he showed up. I was in the middle of the forest on the outskirts of the Daylight Coven. This area looks familiar, like I’ve been here before. This reminds me of something Ava told me. Someone brought her into a dream like this before.                 “We had our first date here.” His voice came from behind me and made me jump. I slowly turned around and saw him standing there. Jack.
