“What’s the matter?” Mack asked quietly. He had one arm around her, and he gave her a quick hug with it. “Nothing,” Sarah answered with a sniffle. “I don’t believe you.” “Nothing,” Sarah repeated. She hugged him closely. “It was good, Mack. Thank you.” “I still don’t believe you,” Mack said. “Any time a woman says ‘nothing’ it’s really something. But I won’t press the matter. If it’s nothing, then I don’t have to do anything about it.” He yawned, gently disentangled himself from her, and got up off of the bed. “I’ll be right back,” he said. He went off to the bathroom. Sarah curled up on the bed. The pillows still held his scent, faint but familiar. Would she ever smell it again after tonight? She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply.
