Time seemed to freeze for a minute after that crystal landed on Melbourne. The room was silent. I could smell Kaida’s salty tears, but I wasn’t sure if they were happy or not.
Dana asked if she was OK and it was like a fog had cleared from her mind. I registered surprise, almost as if she didn’t know she was crying.
I needed to know what was going on in that head of hers. Someone who had been through what she had in life was bound to have reoccurring battles with her mind.
The others left and I scooped Kaida up and took her to our room. I wanted her to feel comfortable and hopefully open up to me. She didn’t want to talk at first, and I can’t say I wasn’t a little hurt.
I wanted her to be able to tell me anything and everything, but I must keep reminding myself of what
