BAYRON'S POV
Dad asked me to accompany him to the council to do some errands, and I said yes since I have nothing to do today. So here I am, strolling around the council's colossal mansion.
The council is divided into four wings; the north wing is where the committee's office and library, on the south wing lies the common areas like the kitchen, dining hall, banquet hall, and visitors lounge. Then, the east belongs to Alexander alone, being the head of the council, while the west is reserved for other higher committee members. But I will never choose to go there; it reeks of death because of the vampires since one of the higher committee members is a vampire. I couldn't stand their scent.
I cringe as I remember their smell, like a rotten corpse. It's so gross! I feel bad for those werewolves who are mated or chose to fall in love with a vampire.
As I continue to walk to the east wing, I start to have a strange feeling, strange in a nice way.
I increased my pace to Alexander's side of the council, and I could feel a strong bond as I came nearer. But this feeling is confusing me. I am not eighteen yet. Is it possible to feel the pull of the mate bond a day before I become mature?
Finally, the entire east wing is in front of me, and exactly the time I arrive at the east wing, I spot a woman with long blonde hair entering one of the doors.
Unfortunately, I did not see her face. I could only see a part of her hair and dress since half of her body was already inside the door. Then the sound of the door closing echoed throughout the big quiet hallway.
I continued to the inner part of the wing, towards the door where I saw the blondie. It's bizarre how I feel; my heartbeat keeps on rising as I near the door. Is this how the mate bond feels?
I press my hand against my chest to calm my heart when I stand in front of that blonde woman's doorstep and take a deep breath to prepare myself for the possibility of meeting my mate today. I still can't believe this; the joy of our connection brings me. It's freakin awesome!
I ball my hand into a fist, ready to knock on the door, then I feel a hand rest heavily on my left shoulder.
I roll my head towards my left shoulder and see a big manly hand. Then my gaze travels continuously from his hand to his arm and stops when my eyes land on his face.
He's as tall and as buff as my dad, but he is not an Alpha. He looks pretty scary, though, because of his cold features, adding his eyes like daggers thrown at me.
"What do you think you're doing, pup?" His low guttural voice gives me a creep but not for long. I'm an Alpha; I shouldn't get scared. But... Oh s**t! Maybe he's one of the assassins who work for the council! Dad told me that the council has assassins, the best of the best, and one of them had put mom's life in danger.
I fix my composure and stand straight in front of him like a real man. Luckily I'm tall, too, so I just need to tilt my head up a bit.
"I think my mate is inside this room," I say steadily.
He arcs a brow and gives me a scrutinizing look. "How old are you, kid?"
"I'm 17, turning 18 tomorrow," I say.
He nods. "I see; well, you're mistaken then. There's no way you could find your mate today. You are probably just imagining or, you know, maybe experiencing a teenage heat." What the f**k? This man talks shamelessly. How could he bring that up?!
"Excuse me! I'm not a horny teenager; I know what I felt. I felt the connection!" I defend myself, and my voice comes out pretty loud from utter annoyance. Or most likely for being defensive.
He shrugs. "Maybe. But I'm telling you, pup; she's not your mate. One hundred percent."
"How can you be so sure?" I ask. What does this guy know about mates? He seems to be the kind of guy who never had a mate.
He crosses his arms over his chest. "Did you catch any particular scent that enticed you?" His question makes me think I don't think I smelled something captivating.
I shake my head. "No."
"Of course, it's a NO because there is no way on earth you can experience the bond at this age. And keep this in your mind. What you're doing isn't nice and very rude for a fine-looking young man like you. You can't just knock on someone's room door, in someone else's house." He sounds like a big brother, the way he's scolding me. Anyhow, he's right. That was rude of me.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to trespass. It's just that... Never mind." I apologize.
"It's ok, Bayron. Just don't do it again at anyone's house." My eyes darted to him upon hearing my name.
"You know me?" I ask, flabbergasted.
"Of course! You are Dylan's son. And speaking of your father, it's time to take you to him. Follow me." He says and starts walking away from the door. I do not argue with him anymore, even though I'm itching to knock on that door. I'm sure I felt something, and I can still feel it right now. It feels like I lost half of my heart, and then I found it, making it whole again. Plus, this baffling happiness hangs around inside my heart, which leaves a big question mark at the back of my mind. Is she my mate or not?
I continue to follow the man's lead, and I haven't realized that I never asked for his name.
"By the way, what's your name?" I inquire politely.
"Aiden." He deadpanned.
"Are you an assassin?" The words escape my mouth instantly, for I am thrilled to meet one! And I think it's cool to have a friend like that.
"I was. But now, I'm official for Alexander." He explains.
"I see. Cool!" I mumble. Aiden glances at me and smirks.
"There you are! Where have you been?" dad asks. I am too preoccupied, and I didn't notice that we are already in front of the council's main entrance where dad and Alexander are waiting.
"I found him at the east wing," Aiden replies to my dad.
"The east wing?" Alexander asks as if he's seeking clarification.
"I'm really sorry, Alexander. I didn't mean to invade your home. I tho..."
"He thought he saw his mate." Aiden interferes and completes my sentence.
"Bayron, how could you do that?! And what, mate? You're only 17. What kind of excuse is that?" Dad scolds me.
I look at Alexander, then dad. "I was wandering around the council, and when I reached the east wing, I got a strange feeling, strange in a good way. And when I went into the hallway, I saw a woman with long blonde hair. So I followed her." Dad looks unhappy while Alexander remains cool. There's a moment of silence before someone decides to speak.
"That's my niece. I'll let you meet her one day." Alexander smiles.
"You never mentioned in front of Cai and me that you have a niece." Dad looked at Alexander, surprised.
"It's a long story, Dylan. I will tell you next time." Alexander tells dad.
"Alright. You better bring her tomorrow. Who knows, maybe he's really Bayron's mate." Dad's angry face is gone and replaced with enthusiasm.
"Sure! We'll be there." Alexander pipes up.
"Great! We'll see you and your niece tomorrow." Dad cheerfully tells Alexander.
"Let's go, Bayron. We still need to get your tux." Dad adds, and we all bid our goodbyes to each other.
Once we enter the car, I immediately shoot dad a question as we move along. "Dad, is it really impossible to find your mate before the age of 18?"
"Yes. It's impossible. It never happened, and it will never happen." He utters rigorously. Dad's sternness sends a clear message to me. I should drop the topic, and I instantly shut my mouth after that, but my mind did not cease thinking about what happened.
I hope it's already tomorrow so I can live at peace, and this will surely keep me up all night.
I can't wait to meet Miss Blondie tomorrow. I have a good feeling about this and a hunch that I will meet my mate tomorrow.
