His pain for Hunter deepened even more. Raven couldn’t imagine not seeing his parents again. “What did you do after that?”
“I hung around outside school that day until they let out. I took one of my lesbian friends aside and told her. She knew of a GLBT group, and one of their attorneys helped me become an emancipated minor based on the record of my emergency room visits. Someone else offered me a job.”
“Where did you live?”
“The dad of one of the members hired me to clean and restock grocery shelves. He had a room there where I could sleep and keep my belongings. There was a toilet and a sink. I studied, showered, and ate most of my meals in their home.
“He guided me in enrolling in a school my parents didn’t know about. Despite the turmoil, I finished senior high.”
