▪︎ Dirty Little Secret ▪︎ "Alex!!!" I turn back to scowl at him, sitting so comfortably in the backseat. "Did you just break into my car!" "That jacket is hot," he stares at it. "It would look hotter on me though..." I hiss at him. "What the f**k are you doing here! Someone could see you!" "Someone has already seen me." "s**t! Who saw you?" "Ruby Rey, the popular Russian girl at school. Do you know her? I roll my eyes and show him the middle finger. He digs out his hands from the pockets of his black hoodie, wiggling his eyebrows at me. "It's not funny, Alex! Why are you here? You know how risky it is!" He swiftly jumps to the passenger's seat next to me. He stares at me with this serious look on his face. "You think I don't know that? You think I don't know how risky being here is?" "Do you?" "Listen, bro." He clears his throat. "I know that coming here was probably a bad idea but I had to see you. There's something I needed to tell you urgently..." "Phones are extinct now, huh!" He glares at me. "I had to tell you face to face!" "What is this you want to tell me so badly that you can't freaking tell me on the f*****g phone?" He takes in a deep breath and starts narrating. "As I was walking home from school today, I noticed that someone was following me. When I stopped walking, the car stopped. When I got into a cab, the car started following us. Again. Luckily, we lost the car." A cold chill slithers up my spine but I shake it off and shrug. "Maybe it's a coincidence-" He cuts me off impatiently. "Last night, I managed to steal some database from The Ford Firm. It contains some damaging information about The CEO of the company. Strangely, the next day at school, I get followed by some stupid car. Look me in the eye and tell me that's a coincidence!" I take a moment of silence, sinking deep in thought. "Do you still have the database?" "Safe and secure." "Perfect!" I sigh. "For now, just stay indoors until we are sure that the streets are safe for you again. No school. No visits. Stay dead and locked in the house." "As you say, Mommy." "But I still that this is one of those intense episodes of your paranoia..." "I hope that I'm right so that you can finally learn to take me seriously!" I scowl at him and scoff. "I took you seriously last night and Harvey Ford didn't show up. You said he would be at the bullshit ball." "See! It's that stupid Ford you shouldn't take seriously, not me! I thought that he would show up at the ball last night, considering he was a guest of honour at the event. Bloody Bastard! After I worked my ass off to get you an invite!" Alex shakes his head and huffs. "I was so f*****g disappointed when he didn't show up-" "Shut up, Alex! I'm the one that got disappointed! Imagine dressing up so expensively and walking around in stupid heels the whole night just for nothing! Do you know how cold I felt in that dress? And how tired I felt in those heels? All for nothing? Such a waste of my time!" "And you had to waste it some more just to go see your little gay boy at the club!" I shrug. "I was scared that Miles would be a drunk mess. He needed me there..." "Naah! He only needed his paedophile boyfriend. That's why he picked him-" "Why are you so damn disrespectful!" I snap. "Trevor is not a paedophile-" "Some thirty-plus guy dating a twenty-year-old college boy! Tell me what that is!" "A loving adult relationship that is none of your business." He fakes a smile. "Awwww! I can't wait to see their wedding and the cute babies they will give birth to..." "What the f**k is your problem with Miles!" "Guess I'm just too straight to stand gay guys." "You are a stinky hole in the ass!" "Isn't that what your little gay boy is into?" "Miles!" I correct harshly. "His name is Miles." He shrugs. "The only name I give a damn about is Harvey Ford." He pauses and grins. "And how he will meet you..." || || || || || "I have an announcement to make!" Prof. Smith leans on his wooden desk, wearing a small smile. He looks from corner to corner, delight in his sunken eyes. "Foxton College has gotten an invite to attend The Grand Launch of The Ford Firm. A new branch of the successful company in this town will be open." He digs his hands in the pockets of his baggy suit pants as the class claps. "This is where it gets better." He continues. "All the professors in this college have gotten an invitation to attend the event on Saturday night. Luckily for you kids, the school board has asked us to pick two students in each class. The students picked will be attending the event only for learning purposes!" Thunderous claps fill up the room. But I'm not clapping. I'm shocked! Shocked in a good way! The Grand Launch of Ford Firm! That means that there will be a new branch here. It also means that if I'm picked to attend the event, I will finally get to meet Harvey Ford. I must meet Harvey Ford. It's what Alex and I have been planning for the longest time! For me to meet Harvey Ford. I can't believe this is happening. It's like a f*****g miracle! Prof. Smith has to pick me. He must pick me! "Kids!" He points out. "From this event, I want you to learn to work harder and smarter. My two lucky picks have been working hard and diligently. It shows in their impressive performance. The two lucky students are..." I rub my hands in glee, ready to hear my name. "Sabrina Stunner!" What! "And Amanda Lee!" The class has ended. I glare at the professor as he packs his big books into his briefcase. A group of students leave in small circles but I'm still stuck at my desk, scowling at the two "lucky" students. Stupid Sabrina Stunner and her best friend Bree can't stop screaming in joy. Amanda Lee is on her phone, shrieking in excitement. That should be me! I should be among the "lucky picks". Miles falls on the desk next to me, grumbling and growling. "God! I'm so hungry I could eat you right now!" My eyes are still stuck on the professor. Watching every move he makes. Miles laughs. "That sounded so s****l, right?" "What?" "The part I said I could 'eat' you right now! Sounds so s****l and 'straight' coming from me!" Prof. Smith is heading towards the door. "You are not even listening to me, Rue!" I leap from my desk and peck Miles on the cheek. "I'll catch you at the cafeteria and listen to every s****l and straight thing you have to say. But not now, my love." I toss my bag on my back and run to the door when Miles yells from the desk. "Are you dumping me!" "Just for a few minutes." I blow him kisses before shutting the door behind me. || || || || || "Where the hell were you!" Is the first thing Miles asks when I get to the cafeteria for lunch. "At your dad's office." "What were you doing at my dad's office?" He asks. "Let me guess, begging him to pick you to go to that stupid event." "I deserve to go, right?" "What did he tell you after you went to beg him desperately?" I mutter. "He said he will think about it." "That's a NO!" "Think about it could mean 'yes' or 'no', you dumb-ass!" "He's my dad and I know him!" He laughs. "That was him telling you a blunt NO in a civil manner." "I hate Prof. Smith!" I groan. "I know he's your dad but I hate him! And I hate that he's your dad!" "Hey, relax," he chuckles. "I'm his son but he didn't pick me. What makes you think you're special?" "I'm smart and you're not." "Yet your smart ass wasn't smart enough to get picked!" I show him the middle finger, sipping on my coke. "Are you seriously not interested in attending the event?" "I hate those stupid events as much as I hate Sabrina Stunner." "I still can't believe your dad picked Sabrina Stunner of all people!" "Yet you still want to go!" "You seriously don't want to go because of Stupid Sabby?" "She's the main reason" I dig into my mountain of fries, shaking my head in disbelief. Puzzled, Miles asks. "Why do you want to go anyway, Rue? Since when are you so interested in that kind of stuff?" "Since I became serious with my studies." "We hate school." "School is the new love of my life." "Being rejected by two men was more traumatic than I thought!" He frowns. "Now you're turning to books to heal the heartbreak. So sad..." I dart a glance at his lunch. "You know what's sad? Your disgusting lunch. I feel sad for your stomach." He's having broccoli and a salad. "My lunch is nutritious and healthy!" "You are serious with this 'vegetarian' thing, huh?" "Dead serious." "Let's see how long that lasts." "As long as Erik's stare on me." He giggles. "What!" I look over my shoulder only to see Erik. His eyes bore into mine intensely. The escapades of that unforgettable night are still so fresh, flashing vividly in my head. He glances away and walks out of the cafeteria, leaving his friends at the lunch table. He's still ignoring me ever since that night... "Did you see that!" Miles shrieks. "Erik was staring at me just before he left! The same way he was staring at me yesterday. At the parking lot! I think he's falling for me!" "Erik is straight." "I think he's gay but he's too scared to step out of the closet!" "He has a girlfriend." "She's a demon!" He huffs. "He deserves an angel like me." "You have a boyfriend." "You made out with someone's boyfriend not too long ago, remember?" "I don't have a boyfriend." "Erik is hot, okay? I've always had a stupid crush on him." He sighs. "I lust Erik but I love Trevor..." Miles glares at me and nags. "I can't believe I tell you about every guy I have a crush on! Every guy I've ever been in love with! Every guy that I've ever slept with! But you can't simply tell me the names of the two stupid assholes!" I wish I could tell Miles but I just can't. Some things stay best as secrets. || || "I'm tired of keeping your little secret!" I walk to the parking lot, speaking on the phone with Prof. Smith. "The longer you think about it, the hungrier I get to spill the beans. Your wife and son will hate you. You might even lose your job, Sir." "I thought I told you to give me some more time to think about it." "Okay! But that will give me plenty of time to explain every single detail about your dirty little secret to your sweet wife." "Please don't do that!" "Please don't make me do this to Miles!" I take in a deep breath and pause. "I want my name on that list!" I demand. "By tomorrow." I hang up. I climb into my car and start the engine. But the damn machine is not moving! I bang the steering wheel and jump out of the car to check the problem. My jaw drops in disbelief. "f**k!" The car tyres are slashed! || || || || || please like and leave a comment if you're loving this book♡
